  1. So we start the rebuild by trading Gomez and Fiers for prospects. Then let's say Atlanta only trades Freeman for the four prospects we acquired for Gomez and Fiers. So we do that and then what? We're exactly where we were. Farm system depleted. MLB team still not good. It's a completely pointless move at this point to be acquiring MLB assets.
  2. Wait. You're upset that the Brewers can't trade multiple top prospects for 60 innings of pitching?
  3. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/red-sox-to-acquire-craig-kimbrel.html OF Manuel Margot, SS Javier Guerra, IF Carlos Asuaje and LHP Logan Allen are going to San Diego. Those are the Red Sox 3rd, 6th, 23rd and 25th best prospects. Margot is rated the 25th best prospect in baseball, Guerra is the 76th. Needless to say, this is a horrendous trade for the Red Sox. Not only giving up quantity but also a ton of quality. Logan Allen looks like he could be a fantastic piece down the road as well.
  4. With the injury issues of Harvey and Bundy, it would take both of them for me to part with Lucroy plus other prospects. I don't think the O's have the pieces for him.
  5. I'm not really talking about that. More like being a tough negotiator. Not being a complete ass and saying we won't deal with you if you don't include these players but trying to extract as much value in a trade as you possibly can. I don't think a GM is doing their job if they don't try to do that. Whether that be another player, getting another team to pay some of a player's contract so you have more money to upgrade elsewhere or whatever the case may be.
  6. I'm not saying be impossible to negotiate with but a GM isn't doing their job if they aren't trying to extract the most value possible in a trade, whether that be trying to get an extra player added without giving another player up or just insisting on one player over another player which could lead to ripping off another GM. I don't like it when a GM tries to make "fair value" trades. Don't do something like we'll give you Martin Maldonado for Lucas Giolito and Bryce Harper but there's no reason not to negotiate for as much value as you can even if you feel like you're ripping the other team off. There's a chance that they might agree to it and if they do, you've improved your organization. It hurts the other team but that's not your problem.
  7. Why? The goal is to strengthen your team as much as possible. That would mean you want to fleece other teams.
  8. If Lind has another year like this year, he easily turns down a QO for a two year deal with a mutual/team option or something. 35 year old Michael Cuddyer turned down a QO after only getting 200 plate appearances in Colorado because of injuries. Sure you can argue that the Mets were dumb to sign him, but there are dumb teams who make moves like that every year. I see a ton of different teams that could have varying levels of interest in Lind. Cleveland didn't get a lot from 1B/DH this year. With a lower salary, they could have pretty good interest. The Astros got nothing from Carter and Gattis. They have A.J. Reed in the minors and maybe someone like Tyler White but Lind could be a nice stop gap. The Mariners got negative WAR from their 1st basemen. They've already stated that they're competing and not rebuilding. They could have interest in Lind. The Rays got -2.6 WAR from their 1st basemen. They could have interest if we take some unwanted salary in return. The Twins probably don't have interest with Sano at DH and Mauer at 1st but Mauer isn't good anymore. It's unlikely but they may have interest if they move Plouffe and give 3rd base to Sano. The Pirates didn't get much from Alvarez/Rodriguez and whoever else they played at 1st base. If we take some unwanted salary, they could definitely have interest. The Padres might have interest depending on how they value Alonso. The Orioles might have interest if they lose Davis as a free agent. There are plenty of options to create a small bidding war.
  9. Reading this is funny because now all I can picture is Melvin saying "Hey Gord, where is my damn latte, eh?!?!?"
  10. If playoff experience mattered, then the A's would've beat the Royals in the wildcard last year. The Angels would've beat them in the ALDS and the Orioles would've beaten them in the ALCS. The Dodgers would've beat the Mets in the NLDS and the Cardinals would've beaten the Cubs in the NLDS. Talent wins/performs. There were so many inexperienced players (a lot of rookies) that played better than the veteran "been there before" guys that experience means nothing to me.
  11. Yost badly outmanaged Collins throughout the series. With the days off Yost knew he could go to Herrera and Davis for multiple innings if needed and he did. Meanwhile, Collins would bring in Clippard to give up a few baserunners and then bring in Familia to try to work his way out of it. Not the worst idea if you have a Wade Davis facing a strikeout prone lineup but Familia is more groundball guy against the contact making Royals lineup playing against an awful Mets infield defense. Bringing out Harvey for the 9th inning was bad enough. Leaving him in after the first runner reached base was even more ridiculous.
  12. Am I the only one that thinks Colon looks like Gaddafi?
  13. Same. Teams are always looking for good, cheap relievers. Add him as a piece in a trade to extract more value or trade him by himself. I bet we could get a pretty good piece for him. Same goes for Jeffress and any other reliever we have.
  14. More interested in seeing Cleveland's projections.
  15. Funny that that idiot calls Bautista a bad guy when Yordano Ventura is, to him, one of the "good guys."
  16. He is and always has been terrible.
  17. I feel bad for the Blue Jays. You get 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs and then you get an idiot umpire giving strikes to Davis on pitches that aren't even close that change at bats. I'd be livid and screaming at the umpire if I was in the Blue Jays dugout.
  18. Yeah and the way they've acquired them is amazing. Harvey - 7th overall pick deGrom - 272nd overall pick (9th round) Matz - 72nd overall pick (2nd round) Wheeler - acquired for Carlos Beltran Syndergaard - acquired for R.A. Dickey
  19. I'm not sure what your point is here because Ramirez wasn't good in 2015. He should outslug him. We are just not a team that should be interested in investing multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts to average players in their 30s at any point but especially now.
  20. Feldman was hurt in 2011 and not very good in 2012. That's why he was available on a 1 year deal. Hammel wasn't good in 2013. That's why he was available on a 1 year deal. Liriano was hurt and ineffective. That's why he was available on a 1 year deal. Samardzija was the reason the A's gave up Russell, not Hammel. Even the Cubs didn't expect Arrieta to turn into a Cy Young type pitcher. Kennedy was hurt this year with a minor hamstring injury in the beginning of the season and he wasn't ineffective enough where he would only be able to find a 1 or maybe 2 year deal. So your comparisons don't really hold much water to me. If there's a 1 year deal to build value at a position we don't have very much depth at and isn't blocking a young player, I'm fine with it but signing Kennedy long term isn't good value for a team in our position.
  21. I mean, it's not like the other leagues are on CBS, NBC, ABC or Fox. The LCS has had one game on Fox so far. The rest of the ALCS have been on Fox Sports 1 which has pretty much the same distribution as NBCSN. Now TBS has more households for the NLCS but they're still only at 83%. Same with TNT and ESPN for the NBA playoffs. And I'm pretty sure only games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Final are on NBCSN for whatever reason and they usually put a few popular games before the Stanley Cup Final on NBCSN. I know the Blackhawks/Predators first round game 6 was on NBC last year.
  22. The Cubs let him switch back to the 3rd base side of the rubber while the Orioles made him stay on the 1st base side.
  23. Not sure if Aragua or Borussia Dortmund.
