  1. Well yeah, because Melvin traded an all-star CF and a mid rotation starter that's cheap. He should have gotten guys more highly regarded considering Stearns has only traded an older closer with off the field issues, an older 1B with injury issues and one year left on his contract, a 27 year old 1B who has barely played in the majors and one of, if not the worst hitting players in the majors the last two years. So of course the returns of those guys aren't going to be as highly touted as the return we got for Gomez and Fiers. Although I do recall a lot of prospect watchers/writers liking our return for Rodriguez, Rogers and Segura.
  2. Morris was never a top 100 prospect and was never particularly good for a college player at any level other than AA. He was a really bad top prospect for an organization.
  3. From Rosenthal #Nationals, who have shown interest in #Brewers’ Lucroy, are one of eight teams on his no-trade list, according to sources. Lucroy, of course, could waive no-trade rights - perhaps in exchange for extension that would start in 17 and eliminate $5.25M club option. Hey, if he wants to go to a winning team, perhaps he would waive it for nothing in exchange.
  4. Can you just be on vacation all the time? We need constant hot stove action.
  5. Tanking would be taking a good pitcher with a perfect game through 5 innings on 50 pitches and replacing him with the worst pitcher on the roster. It would be replacing Braun with Nieuwenhuis against Aroldis Chapman when we're down by 1 with the bases loaded and two outs in the 9th. There's nothing wrong with what the Brewers are doing. The major league club stalled and became stale. We're re-setting that and get as many young, talented players as we can to help us a few years down the road. That's something every team should be doing but especially small market teams.
  6. Eh. Cafardo to me is a guy that just throws a bunch of crap at the wall to see what sticks. I don't recall him breaking any significant story for any team.
  7. Some have mentioned the Diamondbacks are paying most/all of Hill's salary, I could see that being interpreted as paying all of his salary, but I don't think it's clear. I haven't seen any specific number either. My guess is it would have to be at minimum half of his salary.
  8. I understand it. Diaz is honestly more than I would've expected Segura to return by himself. Wagner's upside is maybe what Anderson is now. So that's probably a win just in terms of getting a controllable starter with trade value later. We take on Hill's contract but we have a ton of payroll space and we're getting money to help cover his salary. Plus if he performs (not counting on it obviously) he could maybe get us a Barrios type prospect like Ramirez did last year.
  9. Teams know the consequences of losing that much for a long time. Fewer ticket sales. Fewer merchandise sales. That means less money in their pockets. That's incentive enough. Why should mediocre 80 win teams get the benefit of picking at the top of the draft? Hell, maybe let the World Series winner pick 1st as an example to everyone else on how teams should be built.
  10. Or you could just keep it the way it is, since there's nothing wrong with the current system.
  11. LHP Trevor Seidenberger going to the Padres. Peterson DFA'd according to the Brewers twitter account.
  12. I'm not a fan of the ball and glove logo as an alternate at all. It just keep going back to the golden years of the team because our history is so crappy. Either switch to the ball and glove logo full time (I actually like this version with the yellow and navy) or ditch it completely.
  13. The only reason this is newsworthy is because Capuano was a quality pitcher for us years ago. We signed Cesar Jimenez too and it barely got any attention. If Capuano's name was Steve Harris and he never played for the Brewers, it would've gotten as much attention as Jimenez signing. The only reason this is a "news story" is because he's a former Brewer. It doesn't mean he's going to play for the Brewers. It just means that he wants to keep playing and we probably needed someone to fill out the roster in Colorado Springs.
  14. It's a minor league deal and he's very likely not making the team and would probably be like the 5th call up for injuries. Why even get upset about it? Simon is also terrible, besides one fluke year in Cincinnati and is also a giant piece of crap.
  15. After posting those kinds of numbers, one would assume he wouldn't still be around but leave it to Brewers to consider resurrecting him. Who's next, Suppan? Really? You want to resurrect every other name guy, why not Capuano? Don't you get it? We should pay guys like Lohse, Garza and Wolf 8 figures to be our 6 or 7 ERA guys. It would show that we're trying.
  16. 96 followers = not a real rumor. Like I said before, I'm sure some guy with like 50 followers or something has actually posted a rumor that has actually come true but looking at this account, I'm pretty sure this isn't going to be one of them. I mean, the tweet before the Lucroy, Pirates, Rangers tweet. Yeah, it could just be a typo but Alexei and Alexis aren't even close on a keyboard. On January 20th there's a tweet from a "source close to Yoenis Cespedes" that says he will soon be signing a 4+ year deal with speculation that the teams are the Angels, Padres and Mariners. As far as I know, only the Angels of those three teams has been connected to him. This guy just seems to take rumors and actual signings broken by reputable reporters and then mixes in a few tweets of his own that are pretty far out there in the hopes that one of them sticks so he can be called an insider.
  17. Why would the Pirates be involved? Cervelli is good and they have Stewart to back him up. Take that rumor with a huge grain of salt.
  18. Yeah, no kidding. Taking your top 4 prospects off the table to get an all-star catcher would probably be preferable for the Rangers and might not be realisitic from the Brewers' perspective.
  19. I think this is an okay deal. Really good bat, still young, even if he opts in, he'll likely have 4-5 prime years in the 6 years of the contract.
  20. He had one fluky good season and he's a piece of crap. Even if we needed pitching, I wouldn't go after him.
  21. I agree I could get on board with that but the way Sullivan had it was one of Tate or Brinson and then just filler pieces like Chi Chi Gonzalez or Patrick Kivlehan (who was only posted because he might be an upgrade over Middlebrooks, like we care about an upgrade over Middlebrooks now.) If Gallo and Mazara are off the table, then two of Tate, Brinson and Ortiz need to be on the table. Fillers can be worked out after that but there's no deal to be made for me if we're only getting one of Tate or Brinson and a couple of random, mediocre fillers like Gonzalez and Kivlehan.
  22. Tate or Brinson? Sorry, if you deem two of your prospects untouchable, you don't get to choose only one of your next best prospects to put in a deal. You put in both, or you don't get Lucroy. If this is what the Rangers are doing, Stearns shouldn't budge. We shouldn't settle for a teams' third or fourth best prospect and filler for one of if not the best players on the trade block.
  23. Oh, okay. But just because a city might get an NFL team doesn't mean they're also going to get an NBA team and an MLB team. It's just must more complicated than that. First teams either have to be available to buy and then have a friendly lease that is easily breakable so they can relocate or the league has to be in expansion mode. I really don't care where the Brewers AAA team ends up or how long it's there as long as we can get out of Colorado Springs asap or any other park where it's almost impossible to judge what a player is doing based on the climate. It's one of the reasons I don't want the Brewers in the Florida State League either.
  24. Are you seriously suggesting that the Brewers could move to San Antonio if the they build an NFL stadium and the rebuild takes too long? There are so many things wrong with that but I'll just start by saying MLB wouldn't allow a franchise to move into a football stadium, no matter how new it is.
  25. I will never, ever understand the fascination some on this board have for Ryan Cordell. He's not a player I would be looking to acquire in a Lucroy trade and I don't think/hope that Stearns would be looking to acquire a player like him in a Lucroy trade either.
