  1. Three of them are relievers. If we're going through a rebuild, we should be motivated to move three young, cost controlled relievers because some teams are likely to overpay for them.
  2. Because there's a chance you could sign the free agent.
  3. Jungmann is looking like an ace or a good #2. I have to keep telling myself it wont last. But then he just keeps on going out and shutting down good clubs. The Pirates may be good but their lineup today was complete garbage. Two players with OBP's over .350 and Neil Walker had the second highest SLG% in the lineup at .410.
  4. Brian making it sound like an accomplishment that Segura's last 38 hits have been singles. Also said he's maintaining a high OBP.
  5. Smart play by Gomez. [sarcasm]Now the Pirates will have to trade us Jameson Taillon for Segura.[/sarcasm]
  6. Better prospects and more pool money to play with both in the college/high school and international part. Plus, this is what they did last time. Start out horribly, look like they're in the running for a top 3-5 pick. Play their way out of it and end up picking 11-15 and then think because they played okay towards the end of the year that they don't need major retooling.
  7. Umpire is horrendous. Cervelli dropped it but that was right down the middle just above the knees and called a ball.
  8. Brewers LF Gerardo Parra C Jonathan Lucroy RF Ryan Braun 1B Adam Lind CF Carlos Gomez 3B Aramis Ramirez SS Jean Segura 2B Scooter Gennett P Mike Fiers Pirates RF Gregory Polanco 2B Neil Walker CF Andrew McCutchen LF Starling Marte 3B Jung Ho Kang 1B Pedro Alvarez C Francisco Cervelli SS Jordy Mercer P Charlie Morton
  9. I think every player should be available. It doesn't hurt to listen but barring some insane overpayment like to the Nats for Giolito and Turner, just keep him.
  10. Haudricourt keeps bringing up how the Brewers need to keep Lucroy and now he's taking it a step further saying they need to extend him. All in an article about how the Brewers need to rebuild. It's baffling. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/for-the-brewers-there-will-be-no-quick-fix-b99539236z1-316066371.html
  11. http://33.media.tumblr.com/51e87cc7bb9073f502c5b86365b8d0ba/tumblr_mlxakp15K61s0pj15o1_400.gif Just talking hypotheticals here. I think we all know the majority of trades we propose will never come to fruition but it's still worth discussing. I don't even think it's worth discussing. It's just so far in favor of the Astros, it's ridiculous. The only appealing piece to me is Appel and his star has dimmed considerably since he was drafted.
  12. This is basically a deal where you get a former #1 overall pick who's lost value and you hope can one day get it back and a bunch of average prospects. I'd much rather trade the three of them separately unless the value of trading two or all three of them together is overwhelmingly in our favor and this isn't even close.
  13. It's part of having no leverage and part of it is the area scout finds a player like Allemand (a senior with little leverage) and they ask "If we draft you here, will you sign for this amount?" And if the player says yes, there's a pretty good chance that the team will take him for the savings.
  14. Braun wasn't booed nearly as much as I expected. I would've booed K-Rod far more than Braun.
  15. By my very quick count, of the 97 starting pitchers who currently qualify for ERA leaderboards, 23 are lefties. Not going to count relievers, but managers are so fond of bringing in LHP to face LHB late in the game, I wouldn't discount Gennett's inability to hit lefties so much. Edit: Actually, just looking at guys who play everyday regardless of what hand the opposing pitcher throws with, it seems that LHPs account for just about 25% of all ABs. I'm not discounting it. I'm not really a fan of Gennett anyways. Just saying that if I could get solid production 75% of the time that would be better than getting production maybe 25% of the time.
  16. Interesting comments from Neal Huntington about prospect values based on which levels they're at. Something many of us (led by TheCrew07) have been saying. http://triblive.com/sports/pirates/8712443-74/huntington-pirates-trade#axzz3fieWnlDA
  17. Not as interesting as Jimmy Rollins and his .266 OBP leading off for the Dodgers. Don Mattingly is lucky his team can just buy really good players because he seems really stupid.
  18. That's the sense I got too. They know they need quality amateur scouting to bring them the players that will make them contenders again and they know Montgomery is really good at it so they'd like to keep him there.
  19. And lefties make up what, 15% of major league pitchers? I'd much rather have a left handed bat that can hit righties but is dreadful against lefties than a right handed bat that can't really hit either.
  20. RRR is gone. He can't hurt you anymore. A 7-1 lead with a low pitch count going into the 9th? I'm pretty sure RRR or any other manager would let their pitcher finish the game out and keep them in unless they allowed enough runs and base runners to bring the tying run to the plate.
  21. I'm sure I'll catch a lot of flack for this comment but I never got the Vin Scully love. The guy is just incredibly boring to listen to and he never says anything incredibly interesting that makes me think I would have to listen to him because I might learn something.
  22. I think you could've made this argument after 2013. I don't think you can anymore. The first half of 2013 is looking like the fluke. I think you could maybe get a top 90-100 guy and then a rookie ball wildcard type prospect as sweetener but if Segura is traded I think you're going to be incredibly disappointed with the return if you're expecting two top 100 prospects for him.
  23. To be fair, the Brewers epically collapsed first. They had a 5.5 game lead in the wildcard on September 1st (over the Phillies actually, the Mets were leading the NL East at the time). So really, if both teams play to expectations, the Brewers cruise to the wildcard with an outside chance at winning the division.
  24. So you agree we need to rebuild?
  25. Fredi Gonzalez is really dumb. You would think his lefty giving up two hits would be enough for him to take him out of the game. Nope. And the Brewers lead just like that.
