  1. You've spent 3 hours of a dull morning at work foraging for opinions at BF.net... Totally agree about the avatars. I still miss sbryl's Matt Wise avy...
  2. Wow, my bracket looked bad early, but I managed to pick both championship game participants and the champion for the 3rd straight year. Can't remember how far down I was after the opening weekend but ending up in 3rd was a huge surprise.
  3. I love going to games alone. When I go to the game, I basically sit in my seat and absorb everything on the field while the game is going on. Then I'll talk to people between innings and between outs I guess. I've become fairly outgoing and when you're amongst Brewer fans a new friend is never too far away! This is must-win to keep our edge in the Central!
  4. Sunday was my first Ben Sheets game and what a treat! We had good seats from which to watch pitch location and movement. Around the sixth inning, I mentioned that I hadn't seen him really miss his location yet. I think in the next inning he spiked that curve into the dirt about 4 feet in front of the plate. Ben's been one of my favorite players since he came into the league. I threw a big looping curve in high school so I enjoy/appreciate watching his stuff. His attitude is great, he seems to understand that baseball is just a game even while being a fierce competitor. He doesn't take himself too seriously. All hail Benny! 19 wins this year!
  5. Can't wait for the game tomorrow, I'll be in right field. It'll be my first Sheets game and it's Prince's bobblehead day! WOOT! Go Crew!
  6. Crazy Joe Dillon has a few ideas banging around in that skull of his!
  7. I didn't even mention defensive metrics ollie. I too have watched games and I don't think Gross is any worse than average, he has more speed than he's given credit for and has a strong arm. I've granted that Gwynn is a better defender but was more concerned with gauging what each player would produce, consider BOTH offense and defense and I'll take Gross.
  8. OPS isn't everything, but the thing is Gross is a LOT better offensively than Gwynn, better OBP, MUCH better SLG. The difference would be difficult to make up defensively IMO, especially when considering that Gross could be considered slightly above average defensively.
  9. Maybe Gross will have a couple circus catches in the OF and blast a couple homers tomorrow, forcing Ned's hand. For some reason, I don't mind Gabe Kapler hitting in the two hole. Is there something wrong with me?
  10. I'm quite sure we will lose no games this season.
  11. Dave Bush, this is your year to shine. Let's get things started off right with another win. PS -- Ned, give Gabe Gross a try!
  12. Gwynn was given tons of minor league ABs to show what he could do. Obviously he hasn't had a great number of ABs in the majors and I don't have much of a problem with Gwynn starting these first 25 games in CF against RHP, but why should he be given all these plate appearances when he hasn't shown that he can be even average offensively for a CF? Cameron will out OBP and out SLG Gwynn by a fair margin and Cameron is probably also the better defender and every bit as good on the basepaths.
  13. To answer the thread title, no, I don't think the Cubs are better. Pretty much agree with everything quoted from that Cub fan. I'll take both our pitching and hitting (by a small margin) over Chicago.
  14. We had pretty good seats but the Metrodome just stinks. Here's a random pics: http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/138/72/1176054903/n1176054903_30052640_905.jpg http://photos-g.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/138/72/1176054903/n1176054903_30052646_3118.jpg http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/138/72/1176054903/n1176054903_30052648_3711.jpg http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/138/72/1176054903/n1176054903_30052651_4629.jpg http://photos-f.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/138/72/1176054903/n1176054903_30052653_5246.jpg http://photos-f.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/138/72/1176054903/n1176054903_30052653_5246.jpg
  15. Tony Gwynn Jr has no chance to put up the season that Bill Hall in 06. I don't know how the two players are comparable. Gwynn may be able to out-OBP Hall this season but even that's not a certainty. Meanwhile we all know what Bill Hall is. An overrated, overpaid bust who swings at everything and has lost every ounce of humility that once made him a decent player. He doesn't hustle like he used to, he doesn't take care of his body, and he let one good season get to his head Wow, really?
  16. Batting Gwynn 2nd also makes batting Kendell 9th almost a complete waste of time. Exactly. Let's see if Sheets comes to the plate with 2 on and 2 out at all today, or for that matter, if Gwynn does. ------------------------------------------ http://www.brewerfan.net/images/icons/lock.gifLocked and superseded by a new designated lineup thread: Can Yost Switch Braun and Fielder in the Batting Order Already? --1992casey ------------------------------------------
  17. when do we expect some kind of official word about start time/postponement/delay? I imagine it should be coming soon.
  18. thanks for the update JB. If the over/under is 10, I'm definitely taking the under in this one.
  19. I guess Yost wants everyone in their set lineup slots for when Cameron comes back? That's the only justification I can think of and it's not a good one. Plus Gwynn can bunt Weeks over to 2nd in the first inning so that when Fielder or Braun hits a homerun Weeks won't have to run as far.
  20. totally agree rluz. This makes no sense. Why not go with Hardy in the 2 hole?
  21. If the game could be delayed to about 2:30pm that would be perfect, I wouldn't even have to leave early. Prediction: Tony Gwynn Jr singles home the winning run in extras, igniting a 12 page thread about Gwynn in the 2 hole. Opening Day! Woo hoo!
  22. Pitchers as good as or better than Zambrano off the top of my head: Santana, Peavy, Webb, Beckett, Verlander, Sabathia, Bedard, Oswalt, Lackey, Chris Young... I could keep the list going, some more arguable than others, and I agree he's an ace, but the Ace of aces? If anyone deserves that title its Johan Santana.
  23. I was going to leave work early citing long weekend hours with Monday being a slow day. Plan was to catch the game at a bar but forecast looks icky.
  24. If you're going to boo, you might as well put a "Hoo" behind it because that's how it comes off to me. No one likes when the players' don't succeed. I understand when people do it if a guy is chronically underperforming or showing a lack of hustle/desire on the field. I don't understand why we boo Turnbow and give him no breaks while we had pitchers worse than him that escape the wrath of the fans. I guess I shouldn't say I don't understand it: higher leverage situations obviously bring with them more cathartic responses depending on the outcome. It's always going to be this way but it doesn't mean I have to enjoy it. It bugs me. Some booing is always going to occur but last year it increased exponentially even though we had the best team we've had in years.
  25. Actually I'd say Gross is one of the better backup OFs in MLB, he'd be starting on a few teams.
