  1. nobody is banning 18 year olds from working. i am an engineer, i wasn't banned form working as an engineer at 18, i was just unqualified and needed to get a degree first. I do give you that these kids can do the job, so in that sense you do have a point, but if there is a job requirement to play in the NBA (one year of college, or whatever). that is no different that any white color job.
  2. i really with they would change the rule to this: players can come out after high school, if they do not sign a pro contract, they an return to school and are no longer the property of that team. if you either enroll in college as a freshman or return back to school after the draft, you are not eligible for the NBA draft after your sophomore year. this is pretty close to MLB rules, it really eliminates the one and done rule which is ruining college basketball and the NBA to an extent.
  3. well to be fair he could be in his early 20's.... that story has gone away since draft day, but i still think it may not be out of question that he is older that he claims.
  4. I didn't realize how good Scahill was in the spring, he should make the team. Still think garza will make it, probably rob makes instead of Barnes.
  5. I see 12 position players that are locks / near locks: C - Bandy / Pina IF - Aguilar, Arcia, Gennett , Perez, Shaw, Thames, Villar OF - Braun, Broxton, Santana I think Nieuwenhuis has a good shot of making the team so 12 pitchers are coming back Nelson, Guerra, Garza, Guerra, Peralta, Millone, Torres, Marinez, Knebel, Feliz , Anderson, any one of Jungmann / Barnes/ Cravy / Suter
  6. They'll sign a FA (camp cut), sign a rookie FA, maybe a pick late in the draft. Michael won't even make the team for sure, so this is a work in progress. I'm ok with that, as I'm more bullish on Montgomery and Rip than most. RB is the easiest position to find at least avg talent, so I'm not that worried. They will find a couple capable backs, and who knows maybe even strike lightning and find a really good one. i like Montgomery, my issue is that if he goes down they have noone, if its just a bunch of low round draft picks and camp cuts left. same garbage as this past season.
  7. i know that its not Ted Thompson's MO and they have many needs to address but they have a converted WR and a career backup in as RB and thats it. either they sign another FA or they use a high draft pick.
  8. the draft is so loaded with RB's I would be shocked if they didn't take one in round 2 or 3 that they had a higher grade on.
  9. I really like the signing of Ricky Jean Francois, seems like a great clubhouse guy that can help out on the line that came in for a reasonable price. I complain alot about Ted's Free Agency plan, so when he does something good I will praise him too.
  10. the Gonzaga - West Virginia was probably the best game of the tournament so far last night. should be another great evening of basketball, really looking forward to all 4 games. By the way, i am super impressed with Chris Webber as a commentator. When i saw he was working with BA, i scoffed but i thought he did a really good job last night.
  11. my favorite AL team is the Indians (from major league days, and the Albert Belle era), but i own no Indians gear nor have i ever. brewers and only brewers.
  12. Tom Crean was fired today. I think the obvious choice is Alford, but I don't think he is that great of a coach and UCLA to Indiana isn't an upgrade. I wonder if they will look again to the big east and grab Mack or Holtmann?
  13. Elite 8: Duke over Nova Gonzaga over Arizona Kansas over Oregon UCLA over UNC Final 4: Gonzaga over Duke Kansas over UCLA Championship: Kansas over Gonzaga
  14. according to Bob McGinn he weighed in at 267 for one of the 3 teams he interviewed for, which is why i am glad he is gone.
  15. Packers sign Davon House 1 yr / 3.5MM. i do like that signing for that price.
  16. After the 2014 season ended, they declined the 5th year option on Perry's rookie contract. So the 2015 season was also a contract year. What was different about 2016 than 2015? It certainly can't be effort, which you are implying. He had just as much financial incentive to "turn it on" in 2015 than he did in 2016. My belief is his production went up as he gained more opportunity with Matthews being hurt and limiting Peppers' snap count. In 2014 & 2015, Perry played on about 33% of the defensive plays. In 2016, that number jumped up to about 60% (first among Packers OLB and second behind Joe Thomas for players in the front 7), and his production increased. It's fair to say that his bad injury luck has hampered his production, especially the first two years he was here. But he's never struck me as a guy in the Cletidus Hunt mold (ugh, darn me for making everyone even remember that guy) who just fell apart after getting paid. I wasn't implying specifically anything on Perry because nobody knows what is in his heart. Maybe he just figured things out and will have a big 2017, i was saying that it does happen that players have big contract years and get that big Free Agent contract and then do nothing once they sign. I site Larry Sanders as an example, but Hunt is a good one too.
  17. I do like Marquette over SC. but i am concerned that its basically a South Carolina home game. The line is only 1 point, so it wouldn't be much of an upset anyway.
  18. i think Middle Tennessee State beating Minnesota and Wichita State over Dayton are the 2 easiest upsets in the 1st round
  19. nobody is doubting that Perry had a great season, the concern is that he played really hard to get a contract and will now coast, since he did nothing for the first 4 years in the league.
  20. cap hits per Hirschhorn As a result, the salary cap hits for the five years of this deal are as follows: 2017: $6 million 2018: $10.9 million 2019: $14.7 million 2020: $14.3 million 2021: $14.1 million
  21. well on jsonline yesterday there was an article that they will probably use most of it; i'll guess Perry got 12MM, packers will pay out about 7 million in roster bonuses today (http://tinyurl.com/hw9scev), thats almost half of the 35MM they have right there. I'll guess that they do indeed sign Cook OR Lang and if they sign House and sign their draft picks, i think that is all of their cap space.
  22. if the packers do sign Lang, their cap room will be about gone, which means that the packers will have gone through the offseason without addressing CB / TE / RB. I know the packers need a pass rush and i'll reserve judgement until i see the contract details, but i don't like it.
  23. Packers resigned Nick perry for 5 years. let me put this on the record, i am not a fan of this signing. I know the packers need pass rushers, but i hate giving big money to guys who don't do anything until the last year of their rookie scale contract, more times than not, teams regret this. Call it the Larry Sanders affect.
  24. just curious, what do you consider the Horizon league? I think they are the definition of a mid major. Every couple years they will have a team that will make a run in the tourney. Its a quality league but doesn't compete with the top 7 basketball conferences for recruits. Also i to your second point, there is definitely a desire to get a decent seed which is based on your conference schedule. UWM would have been destined for Dayton and would have been destined to play the #1 overall seed if they won that game. Northern Kentucky is probably a 15, which is a much better position than UWM would have been. I am not sure where Oakland would have fit in, maybe a 14?
  25. N kentucky is a 15
