also.. i had never looked at mench's splits before today, and wow.... a mench/jenkins platoon suddenly doesn't sound all that terrible (though it would cost like $11 million)

Bonds does have 8 gold gloves. He used to have fantastic range and a very accurate (not strong) arm. However, the bum knee and bad elbow, along with age, have taken their toll. He really should be a DH. I remember thinking it was kind of funny back in '02 or '03. They had a commercial where two outfielders were being told how they would cover the outfield (I think they were Grissom and Tucker). Someone asked "what about Barry?" "He's over there", showing him sitting in a recliner in left. So while we can mock him for his defense, the Giants fans don't care...in fact they embrace it .
