I'll bet against alcohol. I'm thinking it more went down like this:

 

1. We know his grandfather is still around - he was released into his custody. So its a decent bet he is in his 20's.

2. He started an article on fire because he didn't like what it said. So we know he's an idiot.

3. We don't know if anyone was with him at the time.

 

So I speculate he's a younger idiot type that was trying to be funny in front of a buddy.
