Is the Village Inn on Wisconsin Ave and 31st Street Safe?

A friend of mine from work is heading to Milwaukee for a Harley Davidson sponsored event. He had trouble finding a hotel until he went online and called the Village Inn on Wisconsin Avenue and 31st Street. I told him he needed to be a little bit careful about where he stayed if it was close to Miller Park. Is he headed for trouble if he stays there?

Having lived on 21st and Wisconsin while in college I don't think I would stay there, mainly in fear of the bike getting messed with.

make that 3, i think it would be fine during the day but i wouldn't want to be driving back to the hotel late at night after a concert or something.

It's west of there. Closer to Marquette high school. On the south side of the street.

Is it safe? I wouldn't stay there myself but your chance of being a victim of random violence aren't that high. I work in the area and drive it late at night all the time.

My brother's best friend lives right across the street from that hotel. His friend has only been robbed over there once, and that was outside of the Rave (which is on 24th, btw).

 

The hotel itself doesn't look all that nice to me, but I wouldn't be too worried about staying there, anymore than I would be about staying at any fleabag hotel. I spent much of my life in that neighborhood and it's not significantly worse than most of Milwaukee. I 2nd Patrick425 on it being a nexus of prostitution though, but really, what hotel isn't? (On a related note, I used to see a wheelchair bound pimp on 27th and Wells (the street north of Wisconsin) all the time, can't be too many of those.)

He's lived there for more than a decade and is out past midnight most nights. It wasn't even an armed robbery, my brother's friend is soft and he gave his stuff up when a guy asked for it because he was afraid of getting attacked. That's a common tactic in that neighborhood (plus some others as well), for people to ask you can they try on some of your clothes (jacket, hat, etc.) or listen to your CD player/iPod with the intention of running off with it. It can't work too often, but the idea seems to be that people are too stupid or scared to refuse.

i lived over there for a big part of my life, dont be scared thinking that something will happen. it may, but it may not be anything to worry about. i would worry about the bike just as i would worry about a car. the hotel is not the best but there are worse places to stay.

that is the ambassador hotel. real nice from what i heard.

not the greatest neighborhood, but not the worst either.

I live near 17th and Wisconsin.

There is a risk of crime in the area. If there is secured parking and he isn't walking around outside at night, he should be fine. I wouldn't recommend staying much beyond 21st and Wisconsin. I wouldn't call the area safe but obviously enough people stay there regularly that the hotel is still in business.

 

Between 11th through 20th and Wisconsin/Wells is mostly Marquette University. I do not walk by myself at night where there is not a Marquette University Public Safety presence.

I lived on 29th and Wisconsin for a number of years, and no it's not the best place to stay, but there are FAR, FAR worse areas to be in.

That hotel is a place where prostitutes are regularly busted. Or at least it was when my pops was a Milwaukee cop. I can't imagine it has changed much.

Very true. We used it look out the window from our 6th floor apartment and "observe" the goings on at what we called the "**+%@$ Hotel" with it's large "Rooms by the hour" sign out front.
