Haudricourt on ESPN 540

Tom Haudricourt is on ESPN 540 this morning, co-hosting at least for the 1st hour. After the break, they are suppose to start talking about moves that Haudricourt thinks the Brewers are going to make, but I won't be able to listen to the show, so can someone listen and leave some comments on what Haudricourt is saying for the rest of us. Thanks.

He just said Melvin doesn't think they will get Looper. Though given how quiet that front has been, I'm not surprised.

They're discussing Sheets and still think he will end up with the Rangers.

Says they "love Juan Cruz", but sounds like they don't want to give up a first rounder if they sign him. Briefly touched on Hoffman, but doesn't sound promising there.

It's sooooo refreshing to hear some new Brewers talk after the last couple quiet weeks, though!

Starters include: Looper, Wolf, Oliver Perez, Derrek Lowe (doubtful on Perez and Lowe as it would cost us a 1st)

Relievers include: Hoffman, Lyon, Cruz (cost us a 1st)

Brewers still looking to sign a Utility Infielder. Thinks we will sign some pitchers this month.

One interesting point brought up is that with Melvin having relied on finding "diamonds in the rough" for so long, it might be getting harder for them to take that route with the position they're in now.

So far nothing earth shattering said, but again, just nice to hear some Brewers talk going on. Then again, what else will they talk about? The Favre and Packers angles have been beaten to death over the past week.

I think Cruz would be worth the first round pick. We are already going to get an extra 1st round pick most likely if Sheets signs with the Rangers and we are going to have a wealth of sandwich and 2nd round picks. I think it's a no brainer to make him our closer.

Mentioned today is the first day of arbitration filing, and Tom H. predicts Melvin's string of not going to arbitration hearings is almost certainly going to be broken with Prince Fielder.

Also reasserted that the rumors about Matt Cain and the stuff with the Twins were generated by press and internet sites, and there wasn't any real substance to them.

Yeah, that's a good point. At some point, I would think "enough is enough" with the glut of draft picks. Giving up one to get a quality reliever shouldn't be that big of a deal long term, I wouldn't think.

Just FYI, if Sheets signs with the Rangers, we won't get a first round pick. They have the #13 pick, and the top 15 are protected. So we'd get a sandwich pick and a second rounder. So we'd only have 1 first round pick, our own.

Is this interview on the world wide web anywhere?
I doubt it's archived. I was just listening to 540's stream from their website.

Maybe Haudricourt will do a blog on the JSonline site later. Probably overdue, really, since other than the Turnbow story, he hasn't posted anything since before Christmas.

Thanks for the updates. Usually they archive he's segment on the show, but since he was co-hosting I'm not sure if they will archive it or not.
