The Race is On! (Mench and Estrada: more homers than walks?)

Remember when Bonds was hitting everything a few years ago and had more home runs than strikeouts? Well two Brewers are approaching similar though perhaps not as awe-inspiring feats. Right now both Estrada and Mench have more home runs than walks. Estrada has 6 home runs and 5 walks while Mench has 2 home runs and 1 walk (which of course was a IBB). Can either or both of these players achieve such a feat?

If they put their mind to it I'm sure they can.

I forgot that Mench's one walk was intentional. That's something else.

unless mench goes on a power hitting tear, expect him to finish the season with more walks than homers. he's 12 to 6 right now.

estrada is even at 8 and 8.

Estrada, eugh.

It's amazing how slow this guy is. He hits a dribbler to third and although you expect basically anyone to be out, he's not even in the TV's picture when they pan over to first base for the throw.

The guy needs to be batting eight.

unless you're counting his potential for inside the park homers, estrada's lack of speed isn't really going to affect his home run rate.

that's what this thread's about.

Oh, I thought this thread had to do with a race....and Estrada....and I figured he wouldn't be very good at racing.

But since this thread consists mainly of you talking to yourself, I guess I'll let it be and let you continue on.

kevin mench has been an on-base machine with his 13 walks to his 7 homers.

johnny estrada has 10 walks to his 8 homers.

too bad mench can't have more homers than strikeouts (21).

Of Estrada's 8 HRs - 8 before the All-Star break, 0 after the All-Star break.

Of Estrada's 42 RBI - 34 before the All-Star break, 8 after the All-Star break.

Terrific.

I'm not huge on catcher defense exactly, but when you concede both OBP and defense you should get a lot better SLG than low .400. I think we could be better served with a cheap scrub or minor league guy for less an spend elsewhere next year.

Igor,

I think you might have already forgotten about the Bad Chad years in Milwuakee. I would like Johnny to have more pop as well, but he is still light years ahead of Bad Chad from my view.http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif

yeesh, I thought Estrada's OBP was bad this season!

estrada likely finishes the season with 10 homers and 12 walks (oh so close in winning that "race").

mench has become an on-base machine, with his 16 walks and 8 homers.
