Yuku image issues (see replies starting with #4)

Over the last 4 or 5 months (or perhaps coinciding with when I downloaded Windows explorer 8), most of the icons above don't work for me (i.e I can insert a picture, I can't use smilies, can't insert video). When I click on those icons nothing happens and I get the triangle exclamation mark on the bottom of the page with an "error on page" warning.

 

I try using Firefox, but with that the icons don't show up at all for me.

 

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I seem to have the same problems with IE8, but Firefox is working for me. I know there are some issues with IE8's java that don't seem to be backwards compatible... I use FF for facebook, because IE8 had a lot of problems with it.

It's IE 8. You need to run Yuku in compatibility mode. See this topic:

Ack! When I responded a couple of nights ago, I completely missed the Firefox part of the question.

 

When you click on Account in your navigation bar, and hit Preferences, is WYSIWYG chosen as your default editor type? Also, are you having trouble seeing other Yuku images, such as the new post (baseball) icons, sticky icons, etc.?

Bump on this topic. In addition to images not working, now I can't see any post icons/unread post icons.

 

I should note that I'm not referring to smilies, or anything within a 'make a new post' window. Just the baseball new post icons & the other icons (exclamation point, transaction icon, locked thread, etc.). They all show up as text... ie "Unread Message", "Closed Topic", etc.

There really should have been some kind of response from staff much earlier. But, if I recall correctly, the last time this happened, a fix wasn't that long in coming once the gurus started working on the problem.

The icons did not work for me last night (Sunday), but were back today.

Edit: except some avatars are not displaying for me, which I guess is consistent with an image server being down.

Images should be back. If you're still not seeing images, you should do a hard refresh or clear your cache. A hard refresh made images reappear for me.

 

I hate it when Yuku tells us to do this as they give this advice constantly. Staff expects that these tasks are routine for everyone, and they're not. While these procedures don't really require technical knowledge, there's still enough involved to confuse those who find computers to be a challenge. Other sites don't constantly ask their users to do this.

 

EDIT: I just had to hard refresh this page to make Toby's avatar appear. That's after having to hard refresh on another page. If you're having issues, I'd suggest clearing your cache and being done with it.

 

EDIT 2: I'm still doing hard refreshes after clearing my cache. Oh, well.

is this also affecting some avatar's being extraordinarily large rather than the normal size?

The avatar thing is a separate bug. It's been a problem in varying forms since the beta profiles were pushed in January. There's currently some CSS in place at Brewerfan/LambeauLeap to rein them in, but it has a few side effects that aren't desirable.
