Well, if he's paying himself back for the acquisition of the team. I can't really hold that against him, though. It's not like a lot of baseball owners sit around and take personal losses on their investments.

Actually most do take yearly losses and make it up upon the sale of the team. The type of operating profits the Brewers have is really large.

The only reason Brantley would be an option in 2010 is because Cain got hurt in 2009. Brantley was the 2nd best CF we had in the minors.

Doesn't the team still have considerable debt from Wendy? If that is the case, I suspect Mark has used the "profit" to pay down that debt.

I'm going off memory, but I believe that debt was paid by the Seligs from the sale of the Brewers. I thought Mark A and Co. came in with a clean slate.

Do you think it was a bigger blow for the Brewers to loose LaPorta or Brantley?

He'll be 25 next season, won't be around at all until about April, and has essentially done squat at the big league level so far. I think we would all be a bit nervous about his future right now if he was still with the club.

LaPorta's BA stunk at .254, but everything else was acceptable, I'm no more concerned about him than I am Gamel. I truly hope both Brantley, LaPorta, and Bryson work out well for Cleveland.

Still a good trade for Cleveland however the players involved end up doing with them. But more proof of how risky it can be getting guys that are unproven at the major league level. I still think they'll end up with a pair of solid regulars, but maybe no all-stars.
