County Stadium scoreboard

Anybody have a photo of it while it was showing a replay or video? I saw some Halloween display that had some blurry black and white pixeled video the other night, and it reminded me of the 1940's-quality board at our old ballpark. I still loved the thing.

Watching highlights on that board was always an adventure. I never knew where the ball was, and I wasn't always sure where the players were. Yet I still wish it were in operation today somewhere in Miller Park. I wonder if the one guy from Switzerland who could fix it is still alive?

Wasn't the County Stadium board "the best in baseball" for like a year or so?

It was one of the biggest in baseball for a period of a number of years. The problem was that almost immediately after it was installed, stadiums started going to color boards. So, yeah, it probably was state of the art for a year or two.

State of the art when installed. Believe it was in 1980. Gotta say that watching This Week on Baseball on it during visitor batting practice was awesome.

I always liked when they would play news clips from WTMJ-4 (or whatever station) and you could absolutely not tell what the heck was going on. At least the audio was usually pretty audible throughout the stadium (something Miller Park has only rectified rather recently).

I was at County the night Dwight Gooden threw his no hitter. The Brewers were in a rain delay, so we all "watched" the no hitter on the video board.
