Converting .avi files to play on an IPod...

Does anyone know any good (and cheap) software to convert .avi files to play on an IPod?

 

I have a trial version of Cucusoft, which works very well - but costs $40.00.

 

I'd prefer something cheaper (or free) if possible.

I've used the free Any Video Converter in the past. This looks like it should work for you.

I know older versions of Handbrake would do this. I am not sure if the newest ones will or not. Its a free download and combined with VLC is what I use for just about any and all of my video needs. Try it out and see what it says.

Have you tried zamzar.com? It's free online file conversion.

I second zamzar.com ... It's the swiss-army knife of online file conversion.

 

...which I guess seems like a weird comparison since it's very specialized and not generally as useful as a swiss-army knife, but I digress.
