Already got a copy of the new Chevelle CD "Vena Sera" from the radio station I work at. Gave it a couple listens already. It's pretty good. Think I like it better then their second album, but not sure if its as good as "Wonder Whats Next".

The new Deerhunter album is pretty good. 1st half is a little weak, but once it hits Spring Hall Converts, things get gooooood.

The Twilight Sad - Foureen Autumns & Fifteen Winters

 

Oh, it's so good. I mentioned their EP earlier in this thread and the full length lives up to all my grandiose expectations. I can't imagine anything else coming along and trumping this album for my personal best of the year.

Hard to ignore the Brian Wilson comparisons on the vocal harmonies, but it's still got that indie feel.

 

Panda Bear - Person Pitch

 

Like the Besnard Lakes only more Brian Wilson-y. And more trippy.

 

In other news, how about the new Modest Mouse? Meh. And the new Ted Leo? Also meh. The new Do Make Say Think and Explosions In The Sky are good but not great. Same for the new Bloc Party and Arcade Fire. I have to say I've been a little disappointed in '07, not including, of course, The Twilight Sad.

I dig the Besnard Lakes, for sure.

 

I think the Panda Bear record is the most disappointing I have heard this year (coming in just ahead of Lucinda Williams and Son Volt, which were both duds). There is just nothing going on there.

I haven't actually "purchased" it (yet) but the new Feist album "The Reminder" comes out tomorrow. I have had it for a month or so and listened to it probably 10 times or so. It's definitely going to be one of the best albums released in 2007. There's four standout songs, to me, "I Feel it All", "The Limit to Your Love", "1234", and "Brandy Alexander", but the entire album is strong. It's only $7.99 at Best Buy this week, so if you've got 8 bucks burning a hole in your pocket, buy this.

Been a while, and not many new purchases, but for those shoegaze lovers out there...

 

Check out LSD and the Search for God. Not the greatest of band names, but they put on a heck of a show and have a very solid EP. They have a myspace page as well, worth a listen I'd say. I talked with the lead singer/guitarist for a bit and he seemed like a pretty cool guy. Heavily influenced by MBV and the like.

 

I'm really enjoying the new Feist album as well. It's a nice album.

Thought I would bring this back.

 

The new New Pornographers (thats weird to type) cd Challengers comes out next month I believe and it can be had on the internet. So far I like what I hear, and I have to say it sounds very "clean," especially compared to their other albums. I am not sure if thats a result of better recording technology or them using almost all instruments as opposed to any synthesizer. Maybe a combo of both. I will definitely be listening through this over the next couple of days and be purchasing it when it comes out.

 

My favorite band Spoon also has a new album out in July called Ga ga ga ga ga. I am listening through right now and am pretty happy as I am on the third song. My buddy said it "sucked" so I am a little nervous, but so far I like it. I don't think I could not like any of their music though.

The original Blackfield album might be the best album ever....came out a few years back. Their second album released earlier this year wasn't quite as good.

 

The latest Mellowdrone album also rocks...my album of the year so far.

thebruce - "Challengers" is pretty much fantastic. I think it's their best album since "Mass Romantic". Definitely a different sound, for sure, and some longer songs. At it's heart, it's still just another great indie-pop album from the masters of the genre.

 

"Ga ga ga ga ga" is a pretty good album, too. I like it better than "Gimme Fiction", which is the album that pretty much turned me off of Spoon for a while.

 

I recommend The National to anyone who has never listened to them. Seriously, just get the entire catalog. I started to listen to them about 6 or 7 months ago, and I don't think a week has gone by where I haven't listened to at least one of their albums.

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga really is pretty good and its growing on me. Its not as good as "Girls Can Tell" but I would agree its better than "Gimme Fiction." I am surprised Fiction turned you off Spoon though, that had some truly great songs on it. It was a little more mainstream than their other stuff, but thats to be expected. Ga seems even more mainstream to me, but very very good.

 

About Challengers...wow. I usually don't like the tracks the guy from Destroyer does, but I can't stop listening to Myriad Harbor. The only downside is that its taking time away from me listening to "Ga Ga."

 

If you have time, go to The New Pornographers website and read Neuman's description/explanation of each song. He just sounds crazy intelligent and knows more about music than I could ever hope to. It makes me appreciate his solo album even more and I wish he would do another after he is done touring with the New Pornographers.

Not necessarily to listen to them if you like Spoon, rather just listen to them if you like good music. They're not a lot like Spoon. More often than not they get compared to artists like Leonard Cohen (I would disagree), The Silver Jews (the singers sound similar), and Tindersticks (probably the most accurate comparison). I just like them a lot. At the end of the year, their album "Boxer" is going to be in the top three on a lot of best of lists.

Huge Chemical Brothers fan, but I have to say that, so far, the new album "We Are The Night" is their weakest for a while. Lots of noodling, but not much they haven't done before, and better at that. It might need a few more listens.

 

The new Polyphonic Spree on the other hand. It's like Bowie and Flaming Lips had a weird night in the studio fuelled by ecstacy and Strongbow and just kept the tapes running...

 

I think their show at the Rave on the 9th of July might be epic!

I bought the Stone Sour Come What(ever) May Special Edition CD/DVD (even though I already have the less special edition). Of course I love the original and the bonus songs and DVD are worth $20 to me.

 

There's a DVD with concert they did in Russia. Russia? Can they even understand them?

Well not really new, but I just finally bought the Silversun Pickups CD "Carnavas", its rather good. A lot of great songs on the CD other then "Lazy Eye".

I recently purchased the Boss Live in Dublin. Solid. Very solid. I love the live version of American Land. If you like old fold songs I totally suggest it. That and the fact that the boss rocks.

I haven't picked up his new one Glitter in the Gutter yet but I'm going to see Jesse Malin at Shank Hall on Wednesday the 11th. Which might be of some interest to you Ryan Adams fans.

I've honestly never gotten into Jesse Malin, I don't think I've even heard one of his songs. I know he's tight with Ryan and apparently Bruce, but that's all I know.
