You know what always creeped me out about the Family Circus? Those ghostly "Ida Know" and "Not Me" characters:

They look so mean.

 

Not creepy, but ubiquitous to the Circus, were the "dashed line path" comics:

I don't want to completely dump on a "good intentions" comic strip...but the Family Circus is just so easy to make fun of. Anyway, RIP to Bil.

RIP Bill. I used to read Family Circus a lot as a kid.

I was in first grade in 1968, and back then, there weren't a ton of reading materials outside of stuff we would get at school (Dick and Jane, The Weekly Reader, etc.). So a lot of us spent a fair amount of time each day with The Green Sheet in the Milwaukee Journal.

The Family Circus was one of the first things that I read on my own--and it was consistently gentle and wholesome. Good job by Keane in being able to keep it that way all these years.

I remember being especially touched by the panels with the deceased grandfather.

I'm legitimately sad to see this. I agree Family Circus wasn't all that funny, but I loved the Billy editions. This 'updated' one is good (SFW)
