Jeff Suppan Retires

I'll always point to this as a signing the Brewers felt they needed to do to show they wanted to be competitive. Following that up with "One of the worst contracts in Brewers history"

I hope Suppan will look up Jeffrey Hammonds, so that they can get together one evening and reminisce about their careers by the fireplace -- a fireplace in which they can burn money (just like the Brewers' front office) without even noticing it's gone (entirely unlike the Brewers' front office).

Suppan was actually ok for the first two years of his contract...it was those final two that were crippling.

Supposedly Melvin had a deal worked out to trade him at some point, which Attanasio nixed. I wonder how the owner felt about that decision later (if the story is even true).

I suppose that this move by the Suppan camp was necessary to quell the GM's constantly inquiring whether or not he was open to entertaining offers to anchor a starting rotation next year... Soup just crushed a lot of dreams.
