Your 2015 Brewers All-Star is???

Posted

Someone mentioned this to me the other day, and it got me thinking. If the All-Star game was this week, who would the Brewers representative be?

Going into the season you would have thought Lucroy, Gomez, Peralta, maybe Braun would be in the running. Realizing the selections are largely based on basic stats, who in the world could you even pick right now? I guess I would have to say KRod?

Krod.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Yea, I guess it would be Lind. Was beginning to think KRod would be the guy, 14th in MLB in saves. But yea, Lind would be a legit choice as of today.

Of the position players, no one deserves any sort of consideration except for Lind. However, he has some stiff competition at 1B, including Rizzo, Gonzalez, Votto, Goldschmidt and Freeman. He's right in the mix with them, but with so many guys, it might be tough.

None of our starting pitchers is worthy, so that leaves the bullpen - meaning K-Rod. Like Lind, he has lots of competition - at least a half dozen guys are just as worthy.

I don't think anyone else can come close at this time. Perhaps Carlos Gomez will get going. The NL outfielders have been pretty lackluster - only 10 guys have an OPS over .800.

In the end, I'll guess K-Rod.

When all is said and done it will be Carlos Gomez. Just too much "name" competition for Lind. If CG stays in lineup, his numbers we'll reflect those of an All Star.

This is what I think. By the ASB he'll be up where he belongs I suspect.

I dunno, NL OF is pretty hot right now... Stanton, Marte, Harper, Upton, Pederson, Holliday, etc.

I'd think Gomez will have a great shot at it in July, but the original question was if the game was this week who'd get in.

Carlos Gomez...even if it is this week.

Seriously you are a manager and you can bring one guy from the Brewers to be on your bench. You are taking the gold glover/elite hitter/speedster in Carlos Gomez. You could argue Lind as a solid PH choice against a RHP, but the other manager could easily counter. I want the 5 tool player on my bench.

Yea, but it's not about that. It's about selecting a guy who has numbers that support him being named to the team. Otherwise you could just add 7 closers who can all pitch one inning. A couple guys with blazing speed as pinch runners, a guy who can bunt really well, etc.

exactly. If someone doesnt get elected by fan vote it'll be the best bullpen arm to represent the team

No, a manager can select whoever he wants. Bruce Bochy is pretty solid at picking his own guys despite much more deserving candidates. The whole best stats thing doesn't always hold up. Yah Gomez doesn't have the solid stats right now, but then again we are trying to pick an All Star after 30 or so games.

I can't seem to remember who it was, but I know recently a utility player was selected to the game. The player's stats were great and all, but lacked plate appearances badly.

EDIT: I think I am thinking of Omar Infante in 2010.

Segura? Are there any NL short stops worthy at this point?

Probably at least 5-7 guys I'd take over Segura. There are quite a few guys with some decent stats.

For the darkhorse pick I'll go Blazek.

You jinxed him!

I literally just came here for the purpose of writing a formal apology to everybody for tonight's loss. This one's on me, folks.

Typically when teams have no "real" All-Stars, one of the relief pitchers will be named to the team. Go to any All-Star-Game roster and the relievers are a mix of guys who have high save totals and other guys who are the only guys reppin their team.

Well if Herrera keeps hitting a home run every game, I think he would have a good chance of making it. At what position... who knows?
