Cardinals Acquire Steve Cishek

The Cardinals have officially struck a deal with the Marlins to add righty Steve Cishek, as Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald was first to report (Twitter links). Heading back to Miami in the deal is Double-A righty Kyle Barraclough. St. Louis will take on the remainder of the $6.65MM left on Cishek’s contract this year, MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro tweets.

Cishek's peripherals, a .782 OPS against, a 1.59 WHIP etc. are really no better than Broxton's so there's some hope that if Broxton can keep stringing scoreless outings that they can move him in a waiver deal in August.

Broxton's BABIP is .361 and FIP is 3.63, so those certainly suggest there has been some bad luck and that he is due to improve. Brewers would likely have to pay all but about $1M to get anything decent back.

Wasn't Scott Linebrink's numbers poor before (and after) we got him? But there was some thought that he would rebound to norms.

 

Edit: i just looked it up. He had a 3.8 era and 5.7 FIP when we got him.
