In Favor of 6-man rotation?

I am.

Why???

1. It gives Lohse an opportunity to right himself and get trade value in August.

2. It allows our young arms to not rack up as many innings. Actually, I am all for limiting most of our rotation in September, giving starting opportunities to Smith, Blazek, Wagner, Cravy, and Jorge Lopez.

3. It provides competition (with the other Sept. Starters)for the inside track to the starting rotation for 2016.

1. Are a couple of good starts going really do anything for trade value when he has been garbage for half a season and is making $11 million?

2. Whose innings are we worried about among the current 6 starters? Jungmann had 154 last year, so he may need to skip a few starts. Peralta had 199, Fiers 174 and Nelson 173 last year, so not much concern there.

Lohse has been very good for 2 years and "garbage" for half a season with us. He can be traded in August or September if need be. Might as well see if he gets hot, and see if a team loses a pitcher and needs a veteran for the stretch run

What can we realistically expect for him? He's 36 and has shown no signs of improvement as the year has progressed. Do we pay his full salary in exchange for a Melvin nugget? I'd rather be giving innings to guys who can help us in coming years.

I think the point is to keep our younger guys innings down a bit but still allowing them to pitch through the end of the season. No need to burn out arms on a lost cause. I'd be all for letting Cravy take Lohses spot in the 6 man rotation though.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Cravy is one guy I actually am concerned about innings. He is already at 105 innings and has never pitched more than 90. I hope they aren't stupid with him like they were with Fiers and his huge innings jump a few years ago.

From what I understand, pitchers don't like the 6 day rotation because it messes with their schedule of off-day throwing. If there's anyone who needs innings limited, just take them out of the rotation in September or whatever when they reach a cap that they shouldn't be going beyond.

I'm fine with a 6 man rotation just one that doesn't include Lohse. He's had 21 starts. That's more than bad half season. Nobody is going to be fooled if he posts one or two decent starts in August.

Cravy is physically mature at 26 and not a premier prospect. He needs to pitch to prove his worth. Sitting him would do him no favors as for non premier guys, out of sight is out of mind. Fiers was none the worse for wear when his innings bumped up. Sure he wore down some but in the long run going through that probably made him better. He was injured the next year by a batted ball.

in a season that is all but over I am 100% okay with a 6-man rotation to spread out the innings for some of the younger arms.

I'm fine with 6 and I'm fine to just use Lohse in mop up or to let a guy skip a start here or there if he feels tired/off. I wouldn't just release Lohse unless he demands it due to being pulled from the rotation. Last thing I want to see is home going back to STL, they of course fix him and get 6 good starts from him down the stretch.

I guess I don't see any reason to take Lohse off the team since this season is toast. I'm sure the guys who have an issue with a 6 man rotation will be ok with only doing it the remaining couple months. Peralta just got off the DL, Cravy and Jungman don't need to overdo it and personally I don't really care what Garza thinks at this point. Unless a 6 man somehow raises the risk of injury I say do it. Might need to carry an extra BP arm though. Bring up Pena and see what he has for next year.

Lohse is a sunk cost. I don't why anyone has a hard time believing that. We were not able to trade Wolf late in 2012 when the same thing happened with him, and Lohse is older than Wolf was and having a much worse year.

Some people seem to want to just attribute this to a down year. It doesn't work like that when you're almost 37, especially for a pitcher. Lohse is most likely done. If he gets an offer next year, it'll be for a minor league deal.

I had forgotten that Lohse is also due $7 in deferred money over the next 3 years. So he has negative value and we get to pay him to not pitch for 3 more years.
