2016 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 6-20

seems to me that all of the college arms they are drafting profile as relievers, is that accurate?

Outside of Burnes yes they are questionable. Daniel Brown is 100% a reliever.

But bullpens win games so if we are nabbing guys who seem like high leverage relievers I will be alright.

Not to draw any conclusions from DS's first year, but it seems like he is going college pitchers in the draft and then tries to get the young teenagers through trades after they have a little time in the minors. Seems like a smart way to go, but as it is said, small sample size.

I like this strategy. much less risk than drafting high school arms.

So far every Brewers pick has an "r" in either their first or last name, or both. I clicked around and of the 6-8 teams I looked at, the Brewers are the only team to have drafted so many r names. Names with "r" are the new market inefficiency.
I think you cracked the method to Montgomery's madness...

Yes, yes I have.

Whelp...sad my dreams of Kyle Cody to the Brewers have dried up. Guess I will just have to make him a PTBNL in my Lucroy trade proposals with Texas.

Preston Palmeiro got drafted by the Orioles.. That's Rafael's kid, right?

[sarcasm]And now I'm waiting for Harold Reynolds to say that this sends a bad message too.[/sarcasm]

I like the Payton Henry pick. He was someone I read up on before the draft and saw good reviews. Hopefully he ends up better than Coulter who won't be a top 30 prospect much longer (along with Ty Taylor and several others who will be displaced after we start making trades for back end of the rotation guys and lottery tickets).

We have a number of under slot guys so, Henry can be given a little cushion.

Like Luis Curbelo, Thomas is a native of Puerto Rico who moved to Florida for high school. A switch hitter, Thomas has a simple, easy swing and produces good bat speed from both sides of the plate that portends more power as he matures. He is a solid average runner. Last summer, Thomas looked like he would outgrow shortstop and end up at third base, but he has gotten leaner and may be able to stay at the position. He has always had good athleticism, infield actions and enough arm strength for the left side of the infield. Thomas is committed to San Diego State.

Interesting theory. We will see what DS does at the deadline this year.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Seems to be a number of difficult signs so far. Presumably they wouldn't have drafted them if they didn't think signing was likely though, right?
