2021 Minor League Options Remaining Thread

Blaine Hardy added to the roster. He's had a whirlwind career of ups and downs but does seem to have 1 option remaining and has not yet reached 5 years of service time, so the Brewers could still send him back down without exposing him to waivers.

Does anyone remember if options can be burned anymore in September? In previous years, when the whole 40-man could be called up in September, it was easy to prevent an option from being burned as long as the option was still intact on September 1st, but things may be harder this year for guys like Miguel Sanchez and Justin Topa.

 

If those guys remain optioned into September, would they burn their options or does September time not count toward that? I ask because I thought I remembered that might've been the case but haven't been able to find anything to back that up.

 

My guess is at least one of those two guys will remain optioned for the rest of the season, so I'll have to keep an eye on that.

I don't believe that was the case with September in years past, options could still be burned but there would be no real reason to call somebody up and option them since anybody on the 40 man could be called up previously. Should be more common now that a guy could be called up in September and sent down the next day.

Sanchez got to 20 days in the minors on Saturday, so I believe he is the last Brewer this year to burn an option year. He still has 2 so shouldn't be a huge deal moving forward.
