LHP Scotty Sunitsch, who was able to return to the mound last week as a personal triumph, announced this morning that he is retiring from professional baseball.

We wish Scotty all the best in his next endeavors. And, a huge congratulations are in order for making it back to the mound and giving it his all for a last stint on the Hill. Leaving the sport you've dedicated your life to is never easy - especially when you are still clearly on the development track but dealing with possible ongoing and lingering injury issues.

Sunitsch (MiLB Player Page so you may review career path) was last featured in this Appleton Post-Crescent piece almost three years ago exactly. Three years? Yes, the lost 2020 season speeds up the timeline and the deepens the memory for nearly all minor leaguers.

Sunitsch's second-half improvement has Rattlers off to a promising start

Sunitsch underwent hip surgery in 2021. It's unclear if complications from that surgery delayed his 2022 return, or if other injury issues were at play.

Nice touch here, Chris. We join you in wishing Scotty well.

INF Alberis Ferrer assigned to ACL Brewers Gold on a minor league rehab assignment.

Ferrer is already in his 5th pro season (again, the 2020 time warp), and the 21-year-old has all of 27 games in full-season ball, all with Carolina earlier this season, playing primarily at third base. He's been sidelined since June 9th.

That is a rather late in the season release clause usually these are earlier in the season.  Was hoping the Brewers would have called up Dahl at least once to see if he had anything left at all.

Here's hoping David Dahl takes his red-hot start to July and cashes that in for a well-deserved chance at an MLB roster somewhere. Man, bummed I don't get to benefit from his fantastic and professional play in right field on a weekly basis. He was a true joy to watch.

And, obviously, a huge congrats is due to Jakson Reetz. Much much deserved.

The initial tweet from @BrewersPD indicated that Dahl exercised an out clause as seen above.

But then they deleted that to tweet again and indicate simply that Dahl had been released.

Not sure what to make of that.

I assume the Doston move means means that Garrett Mitchell should be back in Biloxi shortly.

Meanwhile, if the AAA squad feels under-manned after losing Corey Ray (injury) and David Dahl (release for greener pastures, hopefully), I'd expect INF Andruw Monasterio to get the call back to Nashville.

Suddenly the already struggling Shuckers lose their best bat and Double-A legend, Andruw Monasterio? Whewwww. Time for a certain right fielder to get back in the swing of things?

I am assuming Dahl didn't have an opt out in his contract and asked the Brewers to release him.  The Brewers then released him as they didn't plan on adding him to the 40-man or to bring him up to MLB.  This feels like something the Brewers management would do if they didn't have plans on bringing someone up who has had MLB experience and asks for a release.

Reetz, Feliciano, and Jackson at AAA?  Something's gotta give...

It looks like Mario Feliciano will get to hang out at the Big Club this week, but yes, I think it's fair to assume that a move has to be made before the All-Star Break ends (by July 22):

- RHP Ryan Middendorf promoted to Low-A Carolina from ACL Brewers Blue

Do we pat ourselves on the proverbial back @damuelle? I would like to informally own up to my part in this well-deserved promotion. Pen to virtual paper had to have been that extra lil' motivation the Personnel Staff needed ?. Awaiting the Leoni De La Cruz promotion drop in 3...2...1

Brewers sign 17-year-old 6'2" 185 lb. RHP Esmir Suarez, assigned to DSL Brewers 1.

As they said in pro wrestling back in the day, Suarez is from "Parts Unknown", as his MiLB Player Page indicates.

We now learn Suarez is a native of the Dominican Republic.

Add 17-year-old 5'9", 165 lb. RH-hitting CF Ramon Moreno to DSL Brewers #1, as he has signed as well. Moreno too is a Dominican native.

Technically both players currently reside on the "reserve list" and may not debut until next season, we'll see.
