I know Black is being shut down for the season, but have they specified the injury?
He wouldn't be ready to replace Wong next season, but I was hoping he'd be able to be in the majors in 2024.

As mentioned above, I believe the wording was just a “significant left arm injury”.  However, I don’t see this affecting his 2024 ETA.  By all means, when Black returns next season it will be with Biloxi.  In my opinion, he was already on the verge of a promotion so, that being said, if his performance is anywhere near that of when he was in Appleton we should expect anywhere from 1/2 to one full season in Biloxi and the same for Nashville.  My guess would be a second-half debut in 2024 if performance and health hold up.

Jackson Chourio headed to Appleton, that is all.

Wonder what kind of ripple effect this will have on the OF. Hopefully it ends with Frelick getting the bump up to Nashville.

Jace Avina 297/434/638 (but 39 K / 12 BB in only 111 PAs) or maybe Luis Castillo 287/381/491 (more reasonable 25 K / 16 BB in 126 PAs) could be options for promotion up to Carolina to take Jackson’s spot.

Tristan Peters 287/373/463 with 56 K / 42 BB in 349 PAs possibly up to Biloxi?

Jeez, what a sour year for 26-year old RHP J.T. Hintzen, who was so terrific in Biloxi last season (3.88 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 12.3 K/9 in 58 innings) that he even played in the Arizona Fall League. Somewhat surprisingly repeating at the AA level, his numbers just haven't been there this time around: 5.31 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 7.4 K/9 in 39 innings in 2022.

Being a 10th round draft pick in 2018 out of Florida Southern College unfortunately only garnered the Connecticut-raised Hintzen a $10,000 signing bonus. After 2 games in Helena, he got the quick placement to Low-A, pitching 15 games in Wisconsin in 2018 (3.22 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 in 36 1/3 innings).

His success continued at High-A Carolina in 2019: 3.20 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 64 2/3 innings.

We wish J.T. success in recapturing his 2018-2021 form with another organization or whichever new ventures he chooses going forward.

Started out in Nashville. Was sent down. And, really, it was most downhill from there in 2022.

Much agreed, however, let's send him our appreciation and support as he looks to find his best stuff elsewhere.

Man, the Sounds OF has lost Jonny Davis, David Dahl, and Abraham Almonte in rapid fashion. That's a lot of Triple-A beef leaving the pasture!

This almost has to be a favor to Almonte. At least until Frelick gets moved up I am guessing we are going to see more of a couple of the Sounds’ infielders in the outfield.

They may get Davis back soon

How long before Kelly gets moved to Biloxi? Every time he starts, I think it is his last in Appleton.

It’s probably just a numbers game - e.g. 14 active AA pitchers, 13 active High-A pitchers. None of the 6 AA long men (Castaneda, Knarr, Shook, Luna, Zavolas, Bennett) are likely to be promoted or given up on, so one would likely have to be traded or get injured to open up a spot.

Reece Walling is an interesting name to follow.  UDFA out of high school that decided to pass on college.  Don’t have enough background on him to whip up a scouting report but it’s certainly an interesting storyline to keep an eye on.

Some injured list paperwork designations:

RHP Luke Barker (elbow) placed on the "Full Season" IL list at Nashville.

OF Micah Bello moved from the 7-day to the 60-day IL at Wisconsin (initial placement was June 20th).

RHP Max Lazar moved from the 7-day to the 60-day IL at Wisconsin (initial placement was June 13th).

These moves to the extended IL's free up overall roster space, as only so many farmhands can be active in the system, as per MiLB standards.

Wishing Rafael Martinez (released) and Breiner Carvajal (retired) success in their upcoming ventures, whether in baseball or elsewhere in life.

The 20-year old Martinez, an outfielder signed from Venezuela in July 2018, had encouraging seasons in the DSL as a 17-year old (2019) and 19-year old (2021): posting OPS' of .652 and .774 those years, including a .386 OBP in the latter season. 20 stolen bases in 24 attempts across the two campaigns, along with a fair amount of playing time in center field, tells us speed is a key part of his game.

Martinez's half-season stateside in 2022 also hasn't been bad, with a .232 AVG / .343 OBP / .304 SLG, but 27 strikeouts in 67 plate appearances was perhaps the sore thumb. To me, this was a difficult cut - 2/3rds of his innings were in center field and he only committed one error in 131 innings this year.

20-year old RHP Carvajal was signed from Venezuela in November 2018, but did not debut until August 2021 due to injuries, the Covid wipe-out and more injuries. That 2021 season essentially comprised of rehab work at ACL Blue/Gold - 7 games, 8 innings, 9 earned runs, 6 hits, 13 walks, 3 hit-by-pitch, 3 wild pitches, 12 strikeouts. In 2022, Carvajal went right back onto the injured list before getting any additional playing time.

1B Ernesto Martinez, Jr, currently on the A+ Wisconsin 60-day IL, began hitting off a tee and fielding ground balls this week.  At the moment, he is expected to return to game action in mid-August.  For those that may not know, players on the roster of full-season affiliates can be sent on rehab assignments to the complex leagues prior to their IL time expiring just as MLB players can begin rehab assignments in the minors.  This does not apply to Martinez, however, as his initial 60 days have already passed.

Brewers sign 17-year-old RHP Saul Arias out of Puebla, Mexico -

This article has additional photos, Google translate text below:

The Milwaukee Brewers in MLB continue to rely on Mexican talent, this time they have found a new jewel in Puebla, it is the pitcher Saul Arias, who is 17 years old.

Arias, is a right-handed pitcher with a straight of 87 at 89 miles per hour, also boasts good control, left the GBA Academy of Puebla and was seen at a showcase in Cedereyta, Nuevo León and Veracruz.

"Saul is from Puebla, he is 17 years old and belonged to an Academy called GBA in Puebla and we saw him in several showcases and he convinced us, he has good projection," said scout Mario Mendoza Jr, who signed the young native of Puebla.
