First place Nashville is in Durham this week to take on the Rays’ red-hot AAA affiliate which has won 13 of their last 16 games. Starter RHP Dylan File (3.99 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 7.0 K/9 in 38 1/3 innings) is set for his 10th appearance. LF Abraham Almonte is on a power surge, homering in his last 3 games:

Almonte’s on base trend continues as he works a full count walk with two down in the top of the first. Big Jonny Muscles to the dish to see if he can’t start this Durham series off on a better foot than Toledo where he lost 22 points on his batting average.

Ah, so after Low-A Carolina had to deal with the White Sox's top prospect (SS Colson Montgomery) last week, AAA Nashville has to battle the Rays' top prospect (RHP Shane Baz) in two games this week.

We have dueling one-hitters here. The aforementioned Baz was pulled after four complete and File is still on the Hill to start the bottom of the fifth inning. It's 0-0. The lone Sounds hit was a double back in the 3rd inning by Brice Turang. He was stranded on third base.

Durham's Tristan Gray hits his 12th HR of his season on a File breaking ball that caught too much Middle. His 8th HR since May 13th. It's now 2-0 Durham.

WELL, WELL, Wellllll...

Abraham Almonte has now crushed his 4th HR in four games. My goodness. He flips those hips on anything and he is barreling balls right now. Jeeeeez. This one a rope over the right center field wall. It's now 2-1 Durham.

After going five complete five times on his season, Dylan File has now completed six full innings and it is still 2-1 Durham. He pitched his best curve ball to get a crucial punch out for out number two and a man on third. He follows with another beautiful strikeout on a slider to high inside heat combo. Wonderful stuff from the young hurler.

Weston Wilson hits the Sacrifice fly to deep-enough Center scoring David Dahl (lead-off walk) who had taken third on a deep fly out by Tyler White the AB prior. It's now a 2-2 ball game.

Brice Turang may be hitting 0.318 against LHP in 2022 but he hadn't faced (LHP) Zack Erwin. He strikes out looking on three-straight beauties stranding two. On to the bottom half of the seventh and it's still knotted up at 2.

A scary moment for Connor Sadzeck here in the seventh. On a 2-2 count he completely loses his footing on his lead leg as his cleats slide on a random patch that hadn't been dug into on the mound. It looked quite uncomfortable but he appears to have made out of the wipe out unscathed. Whew. Luke Raley singled on a ball through the middle infiled tailing into left center. Thankfully, Connor is ok!

Mario Felciano with a hell of a short-hop throw to Brice Turang to nail the runner attempting to grab second base. He had a great jump, but Sadzeck threw a high heater and Feliciano threw the perfect ball to nail him. 2 outs now.

Sadzeck got out of his lead-off single with a savvy strike out. Into the top of the eighth, Almonte and Singleton do another thing they do quite well: walk to bases. Men on first and second off the two walks. Nobody out. And Durham has made a call to their bullpen yet again. Let's get those rally caps on and get a lil' break out here!

OH my, Pablo Reyes loads the bases on a picture perfect bunt single deadened down the third base line. David Dahl leads with a broken bat, end-of-the-bat single into right field scoring Almonte. It's 3-2. Bases juiced and nobody down. LET'S GO! Oh wait, Feliciano dumps a shallow well-hit single and Singleton beats the throw on the unsure hop. It's 4-2 now and still juiced. AND, still nobody down baby.

Tyler White joins the party and hits an end-of-the-bat single into left field over the infield drawn in. It's now 6-2 and still nobody down. Men on first and second. Weston Wilson at the dish.

Brice Turang, welcome to the eighth inning run-fest! Turang rips a three-hopper single into the shift-gap to left field scoring Feliciano who had taken third base on a deep well-hit sacrifice to right field by Jonny Davis. It's a five-run inning and it's 7-2 Sounds. Oh baby, this is FUN!

Unfortunately Nashville turned around and has allowed the bases to get loaded with no outs in the bottom of the 8th.

Durham opens up with two cheaply hit bloop singles to right field off Zach Brown. The Bulls are trying to do their best Sounds impersonation here. Brown proceeds to bean ball the next batter on a breaking ball off the foot. The bases are juiced and nobody out. Brown is in a tough spot here. Let's hope he composes himself and gets out of this in a good way!

Zach is a wee unwound. A first pitch ball into the dirt a foot in front of Jonathan Aranda beans him as well. That pitch was nowhere close. And a run crosses. It's now 7-3, bases juiced, nobody down. Woooof.

Durham hits another seeing-eye hit. This time a high chopper by the recently demoted Josh Lowe, who has speed, and beats out the odd one-hopper. Bases loaded. Still nobody down. 7-4 Sounds. Yikes!

Brown finally gets a bit of luck. A ball hit on the nose ropes under his glove but directly into the shift to Wilson who steps on second base and gets the easy double play to Singleton at first. 7-5. Two down now. The Bulls have the tying run at the plate and a runner on third.

OK. That's an escape. Could have been a really rough inning. Instead, it's a rough inning but the Sounds are still holding a 7-5 lead headed to the ninth.

Andy Otero will step in for his toughest appearance of 2022. It's 7-5 and he will look to grab his first save in a tight spot and a tightly contested game.
