I was surprised to see Biloxi in first place given their 22-21 record. The Shuckers have best home record, worst road record and best record against teams over .500 in Southern League. Also, fewest games played against teams over .500.

Justin Jarvis will look to keep his recent run of dominance going versus Peoria tonight. If you recall, he mowed down the League leading Cedar Rapids Kernels in their stadium his last time on the mound. Here’s hoping he keeps throwing like an Ace!

Lucas Erceg getting the nod to start tonight's game against Pensacola. Interesting. One would surmise this is a proverbial bullpen game. He has gone 2-3 innings on several occasions to date. Here's hoping we get effective and accurate Lucas tonight!

High-A Wisconsin is home this week to take on Cardinals' Low-A affiliate Peoria. The excellent RHP Justin Jarvis (1.59 ERA over last 22 2/3 innings) gets to start the series opener. CF/2B Tyler Black has homered in his last 2 games and has an 8-game on-base streak:

Biloxi is in Pensacola this week to take on the Marlins' AA affiliate, with RHP Lucas Erceg (7.58 ERA, 2.11 WHIP, 9.9 K/9 in 19 innings) set to start a "bullpen game" in the series opener. SS Cam Devanney has reached base in 13 of his last 14 games, raising his OPS from .582 to .741 in the process:

Carolina is in Lynchburg this week to take on the Guardians' Low-A affiliate, with exciting RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (1.13 ERA with 24 Ks over last 16 innings) getting the opening start. Center field phenom Jackson Chourio comes in with a 6-game hitting streak and 14-game on-base streak:

Runners on the corners with one down for the Hillcats in the bottom half of the first. Rodriguez hung a fastball over the center-left portion of the plate on an 0-2 count for a single up the middle sending the runner to third.

The Mudcats manage to get their first two hits across here in the top of the third on the previously scorching and fast-working Jack Leftwich. Jheremy Vargas, with two outs, lined a first pitch double deep to the wall in left field. Arbert Cipion followed with an 0-2 crack to right field splitting the gap between first and second base. Vargas scored and we are now tied 1-1 heading to the bottom half of the third.

It would appear we have the Players of the Week in both Low-A and High-A: Hedbert Perez and Carlos Rodriguez, respectively.

How awesome is that?!

I'll post these in my Minor League report tonight, but, for the early birds here your worms:

Hedbert: Press Release Here

Carlos: Press Release Here

I have yet to hear of what is going on with Carlos' left leg but will be tuning into the broadcast in twenty or so minutes and will mention anything I hear.

The Guardians appear to have taken Jack Leftwich (7th Rd draft pick out of Florida in 2021) out of the bullpen (he'd been piggy-backing primarily, quite well mind you) and into the starting rotation for this series. This 23 yo young man is what you might call 'filthy'. He touches 95-96 on the heater and has a nasty slider working tonight. He has 7 k's through 4. This is an advanced Low-A pitcher I am going to follow. He works fast. A very intriguing prospect.

Not to be outdone, however, Carlos Rodriguez has definitely found his groove after pitching a wee flat and over the heart of the plate early. He's mixed in his change-up, his fastball is tailing now, and his curve is working to boot. He just closed his fourth inning of work with a K as well - his third on his outing. It's still 1-1. Quite a pitching duel.

Said Leftwich strikes out the side in the fifth. The Mudcats are not reading his fastball well at all. Every one of the 10 k's is a swing and a miss. Yowza. This young man works extremely fast and, tonight at least, is extremely impressive.

Alexander Cornielle now the piggy-back today. He'll replace Carlos in the 5th. I am going to watch Jarvis in 5 minutes here but this is quite a good Low-A game so far. Quality, quality mound work.

Late late change tonight: Micah Bello will DH for Wes Clarke tonight. Literally minutes before the start the change is delivered.

Justing Jarvis struggles a bit with his control early. But, ultimately, he simply gives up a sacrifice fly. He gets a pick-off on a beautiful turn and throw to first. And finishes the first with a punch out. I will say: do not let Mike Antico on base. He stole second and third. He now has stolen, I believe 23 bases in 26 attempts? Either way, he's almost a sure bet to swipe.

Tyler Black leads off with a professional reach and poke to left center. I'm just going to say it: Tyler Black is a Major League player. He has the full package. I love this young man. He has lots of baseball savvy and he has a little bit of swagger as well.

The Tristan Lutz 2022 Renaissance continues. Man, is he SIZZLING hot since his return. He just ripped a deep double to score Dillard and Reetz (sounds like a repeat of the Montgomery series close, honestly). Shuckers lead 2-0 and we're in the top of the second. Nobody down.

It's a 3-run inning here in the third - the second time for the order to face Mills - and its 4-2 T-Rats. Still only one out. Let's go, baby!

This is definitively not the same dominant Justin Jarvis we've seen of recent starts. He is struggling with his fast ball quite a bit. It's 5-3 Wisconsin here in the fourth, men on first and third, one down.

The Mudcats are now facing a 4-2 deficit here in the bottom of the eighth inning. Cornielle couldn't complete the 8th inning and Morales gives up another run on a second pitch single up the middle. Two down and a runner on first. Mudcats will try to tie or take the lead in the top of the ninth.

Alex Cornielle will take the loss as the Mudcats fall 4-2 . The eighth inning two-out triple ultimately his demise as it led to two runs. This was the wild and inaccurate version of Cornielle as he finished his 3 2/3 inning relief stint with 5 walks to pair with 3 hits. Thankfully, he still had his strikeout game going as well (6 total) or it may have been even worse for the youngster.

Unfortunately, OF Carlos Rodriguez is in the dugout using crutches. Doesn't look good.

Gotta feel for Carlos, really starting to put it together & then this.

Arbert Cipion 2-4 with 2 RBI continues making his case for a call up from Carolina.

Tyler Black (2-4, 3B) & Tristan Peters (3-4, two 2B) multi hit games plus 5.1 scoreless relief IP from the firm of Matulovich, Hasler, Robinson equals another Wisco W.
