Gotta feel for Carlos, really starting to put it together & then this.

Arbert Cipion 2-4 with 2 RBI continues making his case for a call up from Carolina.

I said it during that game he injured himself: non-contact injuries are rarely favorable. It was entirely non-contact - unfortunately, the camera angle in Cedar Rapids flat out stunk. We merely heard he collapsed after protesting the call. He then was helped off incapable of putting any weight on that leg. I would guess it's a significant ligament injury. BUT, we've heard nothing. But, as you point out @zagski6: it continues to not look good. I would hope at this point we are merely dealing with a sprain? Just sucks any way you look at it. He was red hot.

Anyone know why Wiemer was lifted early?

He finished his evening with a 'caught looking' k. Lutz moved to right field. Noah Hamilton came into left field...it was reported as a strict 'defensive replacement' in the bottom of the seventh inning. Reported in the box and reported as such in the telecast. That's all I can report. Good question!

Damn....OK, thanks for the update.  Seems unlikely that he would have been lifted for defensive purposes, so this has me a bit nervous about an injury of some kind.

Yeah, I hear you. There was nothing discernable in the AB fwiw. It literally could be a 'Get Noah some action' type of thing as he just came off the IL a couple days ago. That wouldn't surprise me. It was a bullpen game after all. Joey looked fine in his AB even though he had no success at the plate tonight.

Talked to Carlos Rodriguez after the game tonight. Leg was in a full brace. He has an MRI on his knee tomorrow.  Not looking good.

Do yourself a favor:

Go to the 1 minute 22 second mark. Tristan Peters you heart throb you. What. A. Catch! I saw this live. I have to say, it is even better having the ability to watch it repeatedly. LOL.

Nope. Not at all. Ugh. Just literal ugh. Man, what a BLOW for what was becoming an absolutely incredible season.

With all the talk of the likely bad news coming about one Carlos Rodriguez, perhaps a quick mention of the positive about the other. For a guy who was supposed to be pretty raw, you could make a case he is the ace of that Carolina staff right now. Given how much luck the Brewers have had with their early-round JUCO pitchers in recent years, can't wait to see Henderson debut when healthy.

Carlos was lights out tonight. Scuffled early with a flat fastball finding too much plate. BUT, it didn't matter. He was 'en fuego' from the second on as he mixed in his change-up. If he can get a modicum of tailing action on that heat, look out. He already has a nasty curve to work with when he's dialed - though, it is worth noting, when he loses that inside location on the breaking ball it has led to 5 hit batters (another tonight on the inside as it broke a bit too steep and hit a foot (LOL). He definitely is a top-line Starter/ Middle-Inning guy since the turn to May. If you are able to pair his work into a Vassalotti combo it will typically result in a 'W'. The most impressive thing is the low walk totals. I mean 35:6?! That's fairly ridiculous for Low-A. He went toe-to-toe tonight with top-tier Guardians' relief prospect, Jack Leftwich. They may want to think hard about throwing Leftwich into a rotation role if he can advance his change-up as his slider is pretty nasty coming off 96 mph heat. But, without that change-up he pretty much profiles as a dangerous reliever. They may already be doing this (? I don't pay attention to their system) as he takes the start again later in the series. Mudcats hitters were completely overmatched for the most part - they never got a good dial on his velocity. If I'm not mistaken every of the 10 k's was a swing and a miss.
