Carolina gets us started today, needing a win at home against Myrtle Beach to tie their series 3-3. Starting RHP Jefferson Figueroa (6.35 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 22 2/3 innings) will make his 8th appearance of 2022. SS Eduardo Garcia is having a decent bounce-back month thus far (.780 OPS April, .596 in May, .762 in June):

Three errors and three walks in the first inning have helped to give Myrtle Beach a 4-0 lead (still with 2 on and 2 outs). Jefferson Figueroa exits after just 35 pitches, replaced by RHP Brannon Jordan.

What was even stranger about that five run first is Jefferson Quero threw out the inning leading runner trying to steal second base. He reached via, ummm(checks game notes), walk. Jheremy Vargas also threw a runner out at home!

I guess the earlier Vargas, Eduardo Garcia and Jesus Chirinos errors (gulp), combined with the two-run triple and three walks were so frustrating for Figueroa he threw a run-scoring wild pitch to the backstop.

Yup. One of those first innings ?

In true 2022 Jakob Brustoski fashion, he came on in relief of Brannon Jordan here in the top of the third inning…and, struck the first guy in a full count out and threw a run-scoring wild pitch to the next batter. Gave up a single to the next. Advanced him on a wild pitch. Threw a four-pitch walk to the Batter.

Nothing comes easy for Jakob in 2022. In any given AB, it consistently seems, he could strike you out on three blazing heaters, walk you on four, hit you, or throw a wild pitch.

Oh no! And just like that, Jakob give up a 2-out, 0-1, 3-run Jack. Mudcats now trail 10-2. This is like the way back machine to Brustoski’s first games in April. His era is now back above 15 ( yikes!) and he ran a 3-1 count on the final batter of the third before getting the merciful ground out.?

Nashville also needs a win to knot up this week's series at home against Norfolk 3-3. RHP Dylan File (4.11 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 7.0 K/9 in 50 1/3 innings) will make his 12th appearance of 2022. CF Jonathan Davis (.852 OPS; 22-game on-base streak) and LF Abraham Almonte (.920 OPS) remain the team's most reliable offensive contributors:

Dylan File’s struggling a bit today: 92 pitches over 4 innings, 5 runs, 8 hits, 3 walks.

The Good Guys trail 5-1. Comeback starts now.

Tough day for Chourio - 0-5 with three strikeouts. You don’t see too many days like that for him. On the bright side, Hedbert continues to stay hot with the bat.

Only a Biloxi win at home tonight against Tennessee can save the organization from 4 minor league affiliate series losses this week. RHP TJ Shook will make his 5th AA start, coming off a respectable outing last time out (5 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 6 Ks). CF Sal Frelick has multiple hits in 5 of his last 6 games:

The Shuckers responded with 4 runs on 5 first inning hits! 4-1 Shuckers after one inning! The biggest hit was a Jakson Reetz 2-run double.

Frelick and Wiemer on track for promotion to MLB some time in 2023. Lutz seems to have recovered some of his prospect standing. Can Devanney have a career as a MLB utility guy?

A bad 5th inning (2 hits, 2 walks, 2 errors) ties it up 4-4. RHP Robbie Hitt is now pitching.

Biloxi’s got work to do.

But the Shucker defense comes through nicely in the 8th inning, helping Hernandez escape a 2nd & 3rd, nobody out situation via ground out and double play (Tristen Lutz caught a liner in left and doubled off the runner at 2nd base). Still 4-4 in the bottom of the 8th inning.

A leadoff double (Jakson Reetz) and bases full, 2-out opportunity goes for naught.

On to the 9th inning, with RHP Zach Vennaro coming in to handle it. Still tied 4-4.

So, former Brewer Marcos Diplán gets the victory for Norfolk? Well, shiver me timbers. That's a name I didn't expect to see in the Box Score and, apparently, he's still only 25 years old!

Vennaro shuts ‘em down in the 9th and 10th, not allowing Manfred’s ghost to take even one step.

Now win it boys. Bottom of 10th, Biloxi hitting.

And Tristen Lutz gets it done with a line drive base hit to left field on the 7th pitch of the at-bat!

Shuckers win 5-4. Good night.

Anyone know why Garrett Mitchell hasn't played for several weeks/months?

Yeah, I would love to know this as well.  I just hate how private the minor leagues are with all of the injury situations.

I saw somewhere (can't remember where) that he has an oblique strain.
