Low-A Carolina kicks off the Sunday action. They've lost 5 straight games against the Wood Ducks and turn to RHP Edwin Jimenez, who took a tough loss to start this week's road series (6 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 4 H, 0 BB, 6 K). The offense welcomes back CF Jackson Chourio (.980 season OPS) and SS Eduardo Garcia (.747 season OPS) after a day off:

High-A Wisconsin is on a 4-game winning streak at home against Quad Cities and welcomes LHP Russell Smith (5.49 ERA in 39 1/3 innings) back for his first action since June 7. DH/2B Tyler Black has been a consistent force for the team (.804 April OPS, .934 May OPS, .840 June OPS):

2 - Tyler Black - DH
3 - Joe Gray Jr. - RF
4 - Wes Clarke - C

The Mudcats were 1-hit yesterday and appeared to be following the same game plan today, with no hits through 4 2/3 innings. But Jheremy Vargas made the first hit count with a 2-run homer. Then Jackson Chourio followed with a homer the next inning.

Those blasts only cut the deficit to 5-3, however. And a Hedbert Perez 2-run 9th inning home run simply made the final score look less one-sided at 7-5.

That’s a 6-game sweep for Down East over Carolina, who’d started the week trying to hang onto the first half division title. Shoot!!!

The Wisconsin-Quad Cities game is entertaining for the fans, with runs scored every inning through the first 5 innings. It’s 4-4 with homers from Kolten Wong, Tristan Peters and a 2-run shot for Quad Cities.

Talk about ending the first half with a whimper. What a truly unfortunate time to have their worst series offensively all season. Ugh. Surely, Biloxi feels some type of camaraderie having lost 6-packs themselves in the first half.

AA Biloxi hands the ball to RHP Noah Zavolas (3.04 ERA over last 4 starts) today, at they aim to win their series 4-2 at home over Pensacola. SS Cam Devanney’s hitting streak is now 18 games:

The T-Rats pull one out as Cam Robinson picks up his 17th Save (!!) with a clean inning of one strikeout work. What a first Half, Cam! I smell winds from a certain Gulf coast blowing northward.

AAA Nashville can also win its series 4-2 with a victory tonight at home against Gwinnett. RHP Josh Lindblom (last 12 innings: 1 earned run) gets the start. The offense welcomes newcomer 3B Patrick Dorrian, along with 2B Mark Mathias’ return from the Show:

And Cam Devanney is now at 19 games on the Ol’ hitting streak. He hit his 15th dub of the season (as did Jakson Reetz, I say - still taking buyers for the 2nd half ‘Hype Train’…lottttta seats open, folks). Down 8-4, something to root for gull dern it!

Is there any room at Nashville to see what Reetz can do at AAA?

Not sure we have room for him anyway but the way he is hitting I’d like to see if it translates to a higher level.

Not without sacrificing games for Feliciano.  Feliciano really needs to be playing nearly everyday to improve on his defense.  Way too many passed balls and other issues for him to be sitting.  Plus he is hitting fairly well at AAA right now though some more power from him would be nice.

he went deep today so hopefully he gets going a little more there...man that carolina lineup is young...love to see the depth and what we have been building through international signings start to fill system....cant wait for the draft here coming up

Holy Walk-Off! Way to go Shuckers and Sounds!!

Indeed! Wow! The second walk-off for the Shuckers this series. This time via a rope left field double down the third base line off the bat of Jason Lopez:

And, in Nashville, Brice Turang rewarded Lucas Erceg’s 1-2-3 11th with a well-hit knock off the glove of Gwinnett’s diving third baseman:
