Let us hope we get the pre-June version of Josh Lindbolm. He had what we might call a ‘rough’ June:

5 Starts, 26 ip, 30 hits, 9 HR, 11 bb, 23 k, 0.280 BAA, 1.58 WHIP

Hopefully he found some semblance of a youthful elixir for his tiring arm!

DSL Brewers 2's 19 yo RHP Felipe De Los Santos had his best outing of his young season today versus the DSL Mets 1:

5.0 ip, 3 hits, 0 bb, 7 k's, 0 er.

Noice outing, young man! DSL Brewers 2 lead 6-2 in the bottom of the 8th. A win would pull them to 13-11. Let's go!

It would appear, the DSL Brewers 1 have been rained out and postponed. Whoa is me.

Felipe De Los Santos' performance is really encouraging, giving us at least four starting arms in the DSL to get excited about (Kevin Briceno, Osbriel Mogollon, Anfernny Reyes, Felipe De Los Santos).

Indeed, Anfernny Reyes, is quite intriguing with that 6'3" frame and lefty stuff. It will be fun to watch these guys progress.

RHP Darling Solano with arguably his best performance of his young season today through 4 relief innings (he gets his first Save). The 18 yo Dominican was credited with 2 unearned runs (his first scoreless work given they were unearned) while grabbing 7 k's. Only 4 hits and a walk. He's been striking out at a good clip in his extended relief outings. He's also given up runs - earned and unearned - in every outing. It will be interesting to see how his season progresses.

I had been wondering about Corey Ray of late as he had been absent since a recent hot streak - standing as the 1B coach on most evenings. Apparently, he's dealing with a Day-to-Day thing. Hopefully he gets on the mend as that was far and away his best stretch of baseball.

The Low-A Mudcats trail the Cannon Ballers 2-1 in this week's series and send 20-year old RHP Edwin Jimenez (4.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 64 2/3 innings) out to start tonight's contest. 18-year old CF Jackson Chourio has homered in two straight games and boasts an amazing season slash of .318 AVG / .369 OBP / .594 SLG:

Wisconsin needs a victory in South Bend to even up their series 2-2, with future stars 23-year old LHP Russell Smith (6 innings, 1 run, 3 hits, 6 Ks last outing) and 21-year old LHP DJ Herz (1.99 season ERA in 54 1/3 innings with 85 strikeouts) set for battle. 1B Ashton McGee has a 6-game hitting streak:

35-year old RHP Josh Lindblom (3.96 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 72 2/3 innings) is back after a 12-day rest and we're also excited for the return-to-action of 23-year old C Mario Feliciano (.736 OPS in 196 plate appearances), who exited a game early 6 days ago. The Sounds are aiming for a 7th consecutive win and 4-0 series lead in Columbus:

If you're looking for a Minor League fix this evening outside the games, check out the interviews Jim posted over HERE. I can't recommend Tyler Herb's interview enough. He's just a fantastic conversationalist - he's open, honest, and has a wealth of Affiliated experience (to boot, other than a recent scuffling on the mound, he's had a fantastic year). One of my favorite Free Agent signings of 2021. At age 30, he is still learning and improving. Great stuff.

The AA Shuckers trail their series 2-1 in Montgomery this week, but have solid LHP Brandon Knarr (2.25 ERA over last 3 starts) on the hill tonight. DH/SS Andruw Monasterio has multiple hits in each of his last 3 games:

1 - Sal Frelick - CF
2 - Joey Wiemer - RF
3 - Andruw Monasterio - DH
4 - Jakson Reetz - C
5 - Thomas Dillard - 1B
6 - Felix Valerio - 2B
7 - Cam Devanney - SS
8 - Yeison Coca - 3B
9 - Noah Campbell - LF
X - Brandon Knarr - P

Checking in about 40% of the way through the games, we've got:

  • Carolina trailing 5-0 in the 5th inning, with the teams even in hits (6 vs. 6) and the Mudcats stranding far more runners (7 vs. 2), but Kannapolis has 3 extra-base hits (2 homers, double) and Carolina has zero
  • Wisconsin and South Bend in an expectedly low-scoring 1-1 affair in the 5th inning, with LHP Russell Smith walking none and surviving in spite of 3 errors behind him. The lucky Cubs' run was unearned. Starters Herz and Smith have combined to strike out 15 hitters through the first 4 innings.
  • Biloxi up 3-0 in the 3rd inning, including Jakson Reetz' 21st homer of 2022
  • Nashville leading 3-2 in the 5th inning, with Abraham Almonte hitting his 11th home run (a 2-run shot) and Jon Singleton blasting his 12th homer

Thanks for the Update! Abraham playing is great news for Nashville. Big Jon stays hot. Russ Smith continues to deal. Reetz with another Johnson? Fabulous. Just wonderful.

Sweet. The Cubs pulled Herz after he walked 2 batters (Tyler Black, Ethan Murray - both on full counts) in the 5th inning and reached 89 pitches, thus opening the door for Wisconsin to smack the bullpen around: Joe Gray Jr. single, Tristan Peters 2-RBI single, double steal to score another run.

It's 4-1 Timber Rattlers heading to the bottom of the 5th inning. Poor Herz' season ERA jumps from 1.99 to 2.30, as his arm and future career take priority here.

Biloxi's now 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position, while Montgomery is 0-for-2 in that department against LHP Brandon Knarr. The last Biloxi hit was a 2-out, 2-run single by Andruw Monasterio to open up the game at 6-0 in the 4th inning.

Mon Dieu! Jakson Reetz followed that Monasterio hit with another home run, his 22nd of the year. It's 8-0 Biloxi and Mr. Reetz looks like a sure-fire future Hall of Famer at this point.

Smith was at 91 pitches, but went for more in the 6th inning, gave up a leadoff double and exited. Of course, that run then scored and is chalked up as "earned" on Smith's log (5 IP, 1 run, 9 Ks), along with a passed ball bringing home the Cubs' 2nd unearned run of the game. It's 4-3 Timber Rattlers heading to the 7th inning.

Abraham Almonte raises his day's RBI tally to 4 with a 2-run single in the top of the 8th inning, bringing home Pablo Reyes (walk) and Brice Turang (double). It's 5-2 Sounds.

Tristan Peters doubled in a run in the top of the 7th inning to raise his day's RBI total to 3. Then Antonio Pinero collected a 2-out, 2-run single to extend Wisconsin's lead to 7-3 in South Bend.

So it's not completely a match, but Reetz's numbers this year are very close to what he did last year in AA, except just add 18 HRs. Power is typically fairly repeatable as a skill, but there really wasn't a whole lot up to this year to point in the direction of that power spike.

i just wonder if Reetz will ever get a chance with us....kinda cool to think about a Reetz and Feliciano backstop for the future

Don't want to jinx it with one inning left, but there is a decided chance that the three Brewers complex league games finish with their pitcher giving up just one walk in each game. That is what you want to see.
