The Timber Rattlers have an early start today, looking for a win to tie their home series against Cedar Rapids at one game a piece. It's been a struggle for 23-year old RHP Justin Bullock thus far (6.69 ERA in 36 1/3 innings this year), but hopefully the turnaround starts today. 3B Zavier Warren comes in with a 6-game hitting streak, including two homers during this stretch:

The Timber Rattlers are approaching a double digit losing streak. Let us hope this is the game they turn it around. As the 1980's taught me: 'Eight is Enough'

Five game suspended in the DSL today including the Brewers 2 in the bottom of the second. One down and a runner on first base for the Blue trailing 2-1 (both runs un-earned against 18-year-old lefty, Anfernny Reyes).

RHP Justin Bullock gave up three runs in the top half of the first inning on two homers but has calmed things in the second and third. T-Rats clawed back and it's 3-3 here in the bottom half of the third. OF Joe Gray Jr. got things going extending his hit streak (who knew?!) to seven games:

PS: Jackson Chourio is now 2-for-3 and stole Home on a double steal. That's two double steals - 2nd and Home - in two days for the Brewers affiliates. Last night it was Hendry Mendez. This afternoon, it's Chourio.

With men on first and second base, trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Ashton McGee struck out swinging. He fouled off three consecutive fastballs down the pipe and then missed the last. It's that kind of 8-game losing streak for the T-Rats at present. Hopefully, the baseball gods shine down upon them and they can hold the fort with their beleaguered bullpen and find that one hit to turn the tide.

AND, the bullpen woes continue. RHP Joey Matulovich came on. Walked one. Single. Double. Men on second and third base. Nobody out. It's 5-3 Kernels.

It's looking like nine losses in a row (and two at home to start the homestand) for the Timber Rattlers who head to the ninth inning trailing 7-4. It isn't all 'the sky is falling' at Fox Cities stadium. There is this web gem from INF Antonio Piñero:

* Secretly hoping this reverse jinx rally cap sends home a clean ninth and a four-spot to walk it off.

Thanks for the tag on this. I've said it before, as fun as all the Avina homer videos are, Areinamo has my favorite Brewers ACL stat line so far. Seems like a prime candidate to be leading off for Carolina next year.

I thought you'd be enamored with Jace's 0.354 ISO.

(Sniffles...takes a breath) "He's more than ding dongs, Cheese! He's a good man!"

Carolina aims for a 4th straight win, with 21-year old RHP Fernando Olguin (5.02 ERA in 37 2/3 innings) making his first start since July 2nd. Eduarqui Fernandez gets his first action since promotion to Low-A, starting in center field:

Nothing against Jace, and if he can get the strikeouts down, man that power plays, but Areinamo has just been so across-the-board solid: walking, limiting K's, showcasing really good doubles power.

Biloxi has won 4 of its past 5 games and looks to take a 2nd straight game at home against Montgomery. 24-year old RHP TJ Shook (3.94 ERA in 82 1/3 High-A / AA innings) makes the start tonight, looking to go longer than his last outing (3 IP, 1 R, 67 pitches). LF Sal Frelick is scorching with a 1.079 OPS in July:

Nashville is shooting for a 2-0 series lead at home against Charlotte, with RHP Caleb Boushley (3.43 ERA in 94 1/3 innings) starting tonight after a deserved 10-day rest. SS Brice Turang has reached base in 13 straight games, sporting a 1.094 OPS during his hot streak:

Oh la la, a Jakson Reetz triple just drove in Pablo Reyes and it's 5-0 Sounds here in the bottom of the first. Thank you Sounds bats. After watching the T-Rats these past two days, I needed a five spot.

Rowdy Tellez who? BIG Jon Singleton has 5 rbi's in the first two innings. He just jacked a 101 mph 3-run jack to straight away left center off a lefty. He took an 0-2 count to 2-2 and ripped it. That's 8 ding dongs in July. THIS is why you give Big Jon AB's and let him find that flow. Oh. Baby! 8-1 Sounds in the second.

Let's give it a look:

Oh dear, OF Matt Lipka just did the ol' catch a deep fly out on the warning track and toss it into the stands. Thing is: there were only two outs. The runner from second base gets back and is awarded home base. Yowza. You don't see that often. Boushley has given up three consecutive hard-hit balls to deep parts of the outfield. It's 8-3 here in the third inning with two down. Two down, Mr. Lipka. And, we have a next pitch two-run bomb given up on a hanging breaking ball to deep left. It's 8-5 Sounds, now. Yowza. We have an offensive affair here in Nashville.

TJ Shook had a terrific outing for Biloxi, though the offense has only managed 2 hits thus far. 2-2 late.

1B Jesus Chirinos is having a productive 21st birthday for Carolina. 6-2 late.

Shookster had a great night, indeed. Held his team through six innings. Bats are super quiet. Vennarro gave up a lead-off walk, stolen base, and is full count on the second batter. Ruh roh. Welp, gave up a single and it's now 3-2 Montgomery. Ol' Shuckers nemesis LF Niko Hulsizer. Boooooo!

RHP Jeferson Figueroa is in the midst of doing his dangdest to let Fayetteville right back into this one. After giving up two runs in the eighth, he has men on 2nd and 3rd and a full count with nobody down. Mudcats precariously hanging onto a 7-4 lead.

Whewwww, he's walking a tight rope here. Two consecutive full count strikeouts. Two down now and men still on 2nd and 3rd.

GULP. A Jheremy Vargas throwing error plated a run. Men on the corners, 7-5.

The first hit for the Shuckers since the bottom of the third inning, a Thomas Dillard single to right field with Wiemer on second base and Tristen Lutz on first and two down, saw Mike Guerrero wave Joey Wiemer around third base and get thrown out by about 12 feet. LOL. Ummmm, head to the showers and wash this one off.

OF NOTE: I would guesstimate, Joey Wiemer re-injured his right hand tonight on an inside tailing fastball high up the body of his bat toward his hands. He was in clear stinging pain at the plate and after he walked down to first base with a full count walk. He was cursing under his breath at first base. He clearly favored his right arm/hand when he slid home. I'm going to guess he won't be seeing the field any time soon. I could obviously be wrong. Garrett Greene mentioned on the telecast: this appears to be the same hand and possibly the same injury that saw Wiemer leave the Arizona Fall League early last year and early June of this year. This is appearing to be a recurring injury. Ugh.

Oh, what's that a Jakson Reetz triple and a Solo Ding Dong? Be still my Hype Train heart:

(12-5 Sounds and they are still playing. Lotta hits. Eighth inning)
