Jose Quintana to the Cardinals

Our rivals down to the southwest strike an intra-division deal. I'm sure they're acutely aware of our history versus this particular pitcher and against LHP in general. On the bright side, he won't be there to torment us on Thursday like he had been scheduled to do.

Well, that’s the least surprising move of the deadline.  With three series left against the cardinals, there’s a strong possibility of three more wins from this.  In my mind you have to counter that with a strong lefty killer or two.

Over his last nine games against the Brewers from 2019-2022 he has pitched 43.2 IP and given up 25 ER and 8 HR to the tune of a 5.15 ERA.

Quintana has entered the phase of his career where he is now frequently bouncing from team to team because he's close to being cooked. If he ends up being the biggest acquisition the Cardinals make at the deadline, that is a win for the Brewers. 

In fact, the mere fact that the Cardinals needed to go out and use assets to acquire a guy like Quintana, then hand him a valuable rotation spot, is pretty solid evidence that the Cardinals are not really positioned to make a huge run.

Cardinals pitching has really taken a downturn the last couple years. The acquired toast arms like this last deadline too.
