Wed. 8/3: Esteury Ruiz Debuts in Nashville While Biloxi Plays Two

Ruiz just led off the fifth by staying off a very very tough pitch to go full at 3-2 and then proceeded to knock a single up the middle. He's 2-for-2 with a BB. Let's see if he can swipe a base here - he was thrown out earlier by an eyelash. Man, he is really really patient at the plate. We're going to love this young man.

And picking up from the errant umpiring at home plate, both infield umpires just blew a stolen base by Uriz. He beat the throw quite clearly - sliding in ahead and under the tag of a solid throw. Man, the lack of replay in the Minor Leagues...you just have to accept the fate and the human qualities of these very clearly Minor League umpires. LOL. He was absolutely safe.

OK Eduardo Garcia. I see your return! 2-for-2 with his 10th HR of the season. Let's see if these Mudcats can pull this out. They trail 2-1 here in the bottom of the fourth at Five County Stadium. RHP Stiven Cruz is dealing7 K's through 4 innings. Yowza.

Joey Wiemer just absolutely roped his second hit of the game up the middle (I'd gather 105 plus on the Statcast. That was crushed). AND, proceeds to steal his second base of his evening on the next pitch. Let's get the comeback Tour running HOT!

So. . . Joey Wiemer is the best base stealer in the system.

He's incredibly underrated in every aspect of speed. Very very fast. And, I think pitcher/catcher combos don't expect it. Which is wild. He's extremely fast.

Does he get good jumps? His long legs should cover the ground if he can get good starts.

Up-and-coming young INF prospect Jadher Areinamo plays his second game with the Mudcats in the lead-off position. This is a fun ride. Let's hope it keeps on chugging along. The Mudcats will look to even the even series with Kannapolis at 7-7 if they can manage a victory tonight. RHP Stiven Cruz will look to find his best stuff to get that 'W'. OF Luis Castillo will again sit in the two-hole while Jesus Chirinos will bat clean-up surrounded by OF Hedbert Perez and SS Eduardo Garcia (who will look to find that hot streak that has eluded him lately). Here's a prediction: INF Zach Raabe will get on base tonight - probably grab a walk or two. He's been getting on with frequency lately. Let's wish these Mudcats success tonight!

I'm just saying because I'm just saying! Zach Raabe literally just walked. AND, then scored on a Sibrian double. 2 runs score. It's now 3-2 Mucats. ?

He gets good everything. He's selective. He's fast. He's patient. He gets incredibly good timing with breaking pitches (ala his second steal here). But, mainly, he just covers a lot of ground fast like you infer. There's a reason he can cover CF well. He's just an incredible athlete. A true 40/40 prospect if he can just fine-tune the power stroke.

How about those Sal Frelick SPLITS?!? He just roped a late slap swing - well-hit - over the third base bag knocking in Wiemer and sending Dorrian to third (who had wlaked). Man, this is FUNNNNn!

6-0 Sounds into the bottom of the sixth inning. Alexander is doing Alexander things. And, sheeesh, our young outfield is legit 'must watch'. My goodness, I haven't had this much fun all season. Every out is earned. They are utterly a nuisance on the basepaths. My goodness, we are in for a fun future.

Frelick .556, Ruiz .667 batting for Nashville. That has to hold up for the rest of the year, right?

Mark it down. Already in the HOF last I checked. ? If the goal is FUN as a fan, we've got it in spades in Nashville right now. Near every AB is fun as heck. Man, this game is the highlight of my 2022. Without question.

LHP Nick Bennett is stacking successes. He completes his night going 5 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 7 K's. This is a fantastic line for the Southern League. He is really coming on in the second half. This is a great development.

4 HR in his last 16 games. This is important because he was showing no power earlier in the season.

Very much so. The milb.tv subscriptions is so worth it nowadays as the system continues to get better with more and more intriguing guys

Everything is manipulated by a month of literally zero XBH (hello, June). Other than June, he's been trending UP. In every way. One month does not a baseball season make, as we all know. What I've seen is a fantastic baseball player. He's really a manager's dream. In every way. And, the power stroke and the gap stroke is evolving. Just an incredibly under-appreciated talent.

OMG Zavier Warren just hit his 2nd HR of his night. Holy Sh!t. That's now, count it: 2 3B, 1 2B, 2 HR in two games since the deadline. My glorious goodness. Yes!!!!! Sirrrrrr!!!! Oh, well, I guess Jackson Chourio is also 3-for-3. My goodness gracious. Somebody pinch me!

OF Luis Castillo with his first homer since promotion to Carolina. And it’s a clutch one, a solo shot to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 7th inning.
