SOMETHING was going on at home plate between Henry and Ruiz. I have no idea. It was a 1-0 count. Henry started lipping at Ruiz. Then stood up. Then tossed the mask. Ruiz dropped the bat. Henry went after him. Severino came roaring out of that dugout and broke that up in a big Papi kind of way. No swings were thrown but that was scrappy.

Looks like Payton Henry took some exception to Esteury Ruiz trying to bunt for a base hit with a 6-0 lead.

Which is ridiculous, honestly. 6-0 is not a big lead and bunt singles are a distinct part of Ruiz's game.

For sure, it's also the 4th inning. Plenty of ballgame left, Payton!

And, why the heck is Ruiz tossed there? That's utterly absurd. That was 100% ALL Henry provoking and having his big boy feelings hurt. Now you have a catcher playing 1 1/2 games. Yuck. Either way, wowsers. We don't see that often whatsoever in the lower levels. LOL.

With the Brewers' malaise, I certainly don't mind the passion shown here by our Sounds. Now finish them off and destroy them in Game Two as well.

That's right, Daniel. Let's go Big Papa!?

I find the most annoying thing with Ethan Small's ongoing walk fetish is the number of walks he commits after 0-2 or 1-2 counts. I am glad I don't track this stat. It's an ongoing problem.

That sounds like Yovani 2.0

Honestly, he has some mound presence glaring similarities. I never thought about that until you mentioned it. Good point.

We're now seeing a classic Florida rainstorm over the stadium. Sun and clear down the left field stands. Dark ominous clouds in the distance. Raining over the stadium. They're still playing as of now. 6-0 into the bottom of the fifth.

He just walked his fourth batter here on his 6th pitch. LOL. Those stats don't lie. And he followed it up with a wild pitch. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. One out. Still bottom of the 5th. 6-0 Sounds.

Sixth walk. Man, this is just so ugly. What an ugly ugly inning. Yuck. Small has a lot of work to do this off-season. Until I see a breaking ball enter the mix with regularity and maybe even a fourth pitch, he trends as a middle inning reliever in my eyes. What we're seeing at the MLB level is supported with what we're seeing down here. Such a bummer.

These 7 inning games get me every time. I stepped out to do some farm chores and I see Mejia got the save with a clean bottom half of the seventh frame. Sounds take game 1, 6-5. That was a long slog after an exciting first couple innings.

They should just start every Nashville game with Frelick on first base.  Save a little time.  Dude leads off every game with a base hit.

Might have been posted somewhere else but anyone know why Nashville is doing a double header Sunday as well with no game tomorrow? Expected rain?

Seems tonight's DH was scheduled.  At least I'm finding it advertised by Jacksonville over a week ago.  No mention of why.  Sunday is the makeup for Thursday's rainout.

Nashville aims for a sweep of today's doubleheader, with RHP Dylan File (4.40 season ERA) called upon to start Game Two and INF Brice Turang now getting his first-ever minor league action at 3rd base:

1 - Sal Frelick - LF
2 - Esteury Ruiz - DH
3 - Brice Turang - 3B
4 - Jon Singleton - 1B
5 - Pablo Reyes - SS
6 - Garrett Mitchell - CF
7 - Joey Wiemer - RF
8 - Patrick Dorrian - 2B
9 - Brian Navaretto - C
X - Dylan File - P

RHP Brady Schanuel is once again solid in a spot start, giving the Timber Rattlers 3 scoreless innings before a rain delay halts play in Cedar Rapids. The good guys lead 5-0 on 2-run homers by 1B Wes Clarke (9th of the year) and CF Joe Gray Jr. (14th of the year), plus a SS Antonio Pinero sacrifice fly. Schanuel only conceded 2 singles and a walk, while striking out 3.
