Man, this ump is a trainwreck in Kannapolis. He has no consistency in his strikezone. Absolutely worked over Woessner and De La Cruz and now calls a strike 3 on Hendry Mendez on a ball at his letters and about 6-9" outside. He was not thrilled.

OF Luis Castillo misses a solo HR jack by about 3' high off the wall in right field - that's now two absolutely crushed balls that missed HR distance by a combined 10' between Fernandez and Castillo. And, he gets stranded. On to the bottom of the 4th inning and it's still 2-1 Mudcats.

Gasser has given up two solo jacks in a now 2-2 game in Biloxi here in the 5th inning. He appears to be dealing otherwise with 7 K's now through 4 2/3. AND, it would also appear Tristen Lutz was driven from this game in the 3rd inning when he was hit by a pitch. Ugh. No more injuries, please!

Scratch that. That's now 8 K's for Gasser through 5 IP. Man, I love this young man's game. He is really really good. If you get a chance to watch him pitch, I highly recommend it.

OH BABY! Big Jon 'Bombs' Singleton just sent a 3-run monster laser shot on a 2-2 count sending Ruiz and Turang around those basepaths. He had literally just missed a rocket the swing prior on an inside breaking ball. Not the next pitch. No Sir! It's now 8-3 Sounds. Let's GO! Oh he bat dropped after that rocket into the deep stands in right field. That was above and beyond the entire set of bleachers. Whewwwwww. Let's get that OPS back above 0.800, Jon! Sweetness.

BTW, this is Eric Brown Jr's second consecutive game on the shelf. Robert Moore is playing SS. I wonder if this is just a 'Clear your head and take some time." kind of deal - he'd been scuffling at the plate some this past week. We'll have to monitor this into the weekend.

Welp, Valerio botched a sliding stop in the RF grass to let the first man aboard. Then with runners at the corner Zavier Warren botched a grounder right at him. Gasser gets run. OK. I'm turning it all off. Baseball break in order. ? Let's hope the young men can pull some games out of the hat!

Yeah, really let down Gasser after he’d buckled down to do enough to escape the inning still tied 2-2 despite being over 80 pitches. Instead, it’s 4-2, with both extra runs unearned.

Tough loss for Biloxi. Failed to score with 2-on, nobody out in the 2nd inning and 2-on, 1-out in the 6th inning. Lose the opener 4-2 with loss charged to Gasser despite only yielding 2 earned runs and striking out 9.

Gotta suit up again and play another one tonight, presumably without Lutz who left the opener early after being plunked.

Puello throws his best game in eons, conceding no earned runs and just 1 hit in 6 1/3 innings, but an error has allowed Lansing to score a run. It’s 2-1 Timber Rattlers on homers by Acosta and Gray.

After dropping the first game of today's home doubleheader against Chattanooga, Biloxi sends out RHP Victor Castaneda (3.94 season ERA and set to turn 24 years old in a few short hours) to dominate Game Two tonight. 3B Yeison Coca and C Jason Lopez replace Lutz and Diaz from the opening game lineup:

RHP Trevor Tietz is a changed man, executing the 6-out save (4 Ks) to preserve Carolina's 4-1 victory which knots up their series in Kannapolis 2-2.

Unfortunately, 1B Wes Clarke's 2nd error of the game has given Lansing its 2nd unearned run to tie it 2-2 in the 8th inning. And a subsequent RBI single (only their 2nd hit of the game) gives the Lugnuts a 3-2 advantage.

The pitchers in Wisconsin and Biloxi have deserved better thus far tonight.

RHP Cam Robinson wasn't his usual sharp self, but retired the final 3 batters of the game to seal Nashville's 11-8 win tonight and edge to a 3-1 series lead.

CF Garrett Whitley gets Biloxi off to a solid start in Game 2, hitting an opposite field 2-run homer for a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning.

Wisconsin loads the bases in the bottom of the 8th inning, but fails to score and remains down 3-2. On to the 9th, with Meeker pitching in the top half and Acosta, Raabe and Cipion due up in the bottom half.

Wisconsin goes down in order in the 9th inning, wasting Puello's gem (6 1/3 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 1 H, 5 BB, 6 Ks) in a 3-2 loss to also fall behind 3-1 in the series.

Ack. Biloxi was leading 3-0 with runners at 1st and 3rd with 1 out in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

and...

Got both of those runners thrown out on a non-play - Ray caught stealing 2nd, Holt caught off of 3rd base.

Naturally, following that deflation, Castaneda allowed the first 3 batters of the top of the 3rd inning to reach base (walk, single, walk). He'll try to escape.

Victor Castaneda stepped up to strike out 3 consecutive hitters, leaving the bases stranded and retaining the 3-0 Biloxi lead in the 3rd inning. Whew!

Oh. My. Word. They keep throwing these off-speed meatballs. I think it’s fair to say Joey is seeing these.

1B Zavier Warren hits his first home run in AA ball, a 3-run shot to extend Biloxi's cushion to 6-0 in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Go Shuckers!!

Have a night Luis Castillo: 4-for-4 with 2 2B, 2 R, and 1 RBI. Fantastic stuff. I saw the early double deep off the right field wall. It would appear he tacked on another.
