Eric Lauer has been mostly good for us over the last two seasons but I wonder about his attitude in the aftermath of the Hader trade and the potential influence on the locker room during this slide...

JFC. Cards score 5 in 9th to walk it off 6-5.

They’re just so much better than the Brewers it’s not even funny.

They're all of a sudden 25 games over .500!

I know batting average isn’t everything but they have 5 dudes in tonight’s lineup with a higher batting average than our best hitter

IMHO, winning 95 games in 2021 shows what can happen when a lot of things fall into place.

The pitching especially had a combination of excellent performances and good luck with injuries that is unlikely to be repeated. The Brewers very rarely had to use anybody other than their established 6 man rotation to start a game. In this era that is extremely unusual, as the Brewers found out this year. In addition, they had the best 8th and 9th inning bullpen combo in MLB. That is gone.

Offensively they had what might end up being the best 3 months of hitting that Adames will have in his career, plus big contributions from Urias, Garcia, and Narvaez (for at least half of the season).  I think it’s questionable to expect a bunch of rookies to make substantial contributions.

Don't know how one would want to define substantial, but as currently constructed I see room for no more than 2 rookies to be more-or-less everyday players, unless someone else forces their way into a substantial role. And that would be a good thing.

The starting pitching has to be healthy (that only pertains to the Brewers, plus every other team), and has to perform up to the level they're capable of, which hasn't happened nearly enough.

I suspect a % of that "bunch of rookies" will be used as trade capital.

If the Cards go 12-13 in their final 25 games the Brewers would need to go 22-4 to tie them! Lolol.

I'm not sure which is more unlikely.

Never mind.... Brewer odds of going 22-4 have to be approaching lottery level.

Wong gone, enter Turang.
McCutchen and Davis gone, enter two of Mitchell, Ruiz, Frelick, Wiemer.

Narvaez gone, possibly enter Feliciano.

So, 3-4 rookies.

We're on the same page pretty much. But as everyday players I see Turang & whoever is in CF. Hiura may (probably) ace out someone as DH, making a 2nd OF having to rely on Renfroe leaving. I considered Mario as not being an "everyday" player.

If Renfroe is retained It's hard to see more than two, or three is Feliciano sharing a job is counted.
