Nashville is home to take on Marlins' AAA affiliate Jacksonville this week, hanging onto a 2.5-game lead over Columbus for first place and a spot in the AAA playoffs with 15 games to go. RHP Marcus Walden (5.12 ERA in 45 2/3 IP in Nashville) is tonight's starter, while the team welcomes rehabbing major league CF Jonathan Davis to the lineup. DH/OF Sal Frelick has a 29-game on-base streak:

Biloxi has a 4-game winning streak and welcomes newly-promoted CF Jackson Chourio (.916 OPS in 413 Low-A/High-A plate appearances) for its final week of the season, a road series against Marlins' AA affiliate Pensacola. RHP Carlos Luna starts the opening game, seeking to overcome a rough 3-game stretch personally (13 ER in 8 2/3 IP):

Ready for the Ray, Chourio, Whitley outfield debut baby. Let's hope Carlos Luna brings some of his better stuff tonight. He's capable of bringing a solid 5 IP outing. But, you just never know.

Chourio debuts with a strikeout. Whitley followed with a soaring double to right center field. Wes Clarke takes a walk. Men on first and second, two down, and Felix Valerio strikes out on a 2-2 offspeed pitch.

Chourio's 2nd Double-A bat. How about a bases loaded two out situation? Sounds good to me. A swing and a miss on a first pitch off-speed and outside. The second pitch inside and in the dirt, ball one. The third pitch? He skied a double high and deep off the high wall in right center. Two runs scored. Lopez huffs and trudges home and is thrown out by a good 4 feet. 2-0 Shuckers.

Luna gives back a run in the bottom of the 2nd on a run-scoring double into the left field corner. Garrett Whitley says "Not so fast, Sirs!". He keeps his hands inside and rips a solo shot over the wall in left field on an inside off-speed pitch. I love me some Whitley, you know I do. 3-1 Shuckers.

Felix Valerio scuffles on a strange, but routine, grounder off the mound and up the middle. He fails to get behind the ball and biffs it into the shallow left field grass off his foot. It looked to be an awkward but lazy effort on his behalf. The next batter hits a weak grounder through the gap between first and second base. An inning that 'should' be over for Carlos Luna continues. Shuckers still lead 3-2.

Two very close baseball games approaching the midway point. Shuckers lead 3-2. One down and a man on first (on a double pump late throw from Ethan Murray on a slow dribbler) in the bottom of the 5th. Nashville is tied 1-1 here after Payton Henry's sac fly in the 4th. 1-1 Sounds and Jumbo Shrimp are knotted up. No benches have cleared as of yet ?

It would appear we might get our second bases juiced AB for Jackson Chourio. Let's see what Corey Ray does with his 0-2 count. Nevermind, men on 2nd and 3rd. Ray hit a deep fly to straightaway center field that drops onto the warning track dirt plating two.

AND, third time on base for Frelick who smokes a single line drive to right field. My goodness. 3-for-3. Flat out on base machine. His fifth 3-hit game as a Sound. He's also had a 4-hit game. He'll have a chance for that tonight. Whewwwww.

*I should add: Frelick was thrown out from deep center field on a deep towering shot hit by Esteury Ruiz. He tried to aggressively take second base (a worthwhile play to do so) but was thrown out by a better play from the center fielder. He nailed him by a good 3 feet. Turang flied out to left field in the ensuing AB and a lead-off dangerous base runner situation was extinguished mighty quick.

Chourio plates Jason Lopez on a well-hit sac fly liner to deep left center on the tip of the warning track. 7-2 Shuckers. Let's go, men! Let's close this season out on a high note. Love it!

RHP Trevor Gott is getting his first rehab action here in the top of the 7th. This one is still knotted up at 1-1. His first batter, one Payton Henry, ripped a laser shot grounder off the bottom of his left foot. He looks just fine, however, and has now gotten two down on fly outs. Ruiz absolutely ran down a deep liner down the line in left field - a lot of range with Davis in CF and Wiemer in RF. Gott is touching 95-96 mph with the heat but he is definitely hanging pitches as he works his way back.

This is an extremely important game right now with the Clippers having lost. Jacksonville trails Durham by a game and a half as well and Durham lost. Both teams have lots to gain with a victory tonight. As I type, Gott gave up a ripped liner through the gap between first and second base. Wiemer holds Henry at second. Men on 1st and 2nd base, two down. 0-2 count. Feliciano shows his ugly glove work as a 96 mph outside heater reaches the heart of his mitt and he completely biffs it. A passed ball - his 11th of the year - advance both runners. Men on 2nd and 3rd base. That was an ugly play by Feliciano in a key spot. No harm, no foul however. Gott gets the weak dribbler to Singleton at 1B. On to the bottom of the 7th.

JC Mejia just gave up an absolute laser shot BOMB over the restaurant in deep right field (410 feet it would appear, 111 mph off the bat). A no doubter. Le sigh. 2-1 Jumbo Shrimb in the top of the 8th. There was nothing 'Shrimp' like in that blast. Yikes. No doubt about it.

I really wonder if Frelick will be ranked in the top 30 on prospect lists at season’s end? Call me a homer but I would have him ranked that highly.

I honestly don't care where they move Sal. He'll stay in the top 50. What I'm advocating for quite a bit more is: get Jeferson Quero in that top 100. Absurdity if he isn't recognized for the stud he is. I've been calling for this before his recent tear. Given how he ended the season, it's a no-brainer.

My word, is Feliciano prone to being an absolute butcher behind home plate. His throw to second base here in the 8th inning was embarrassing. It landed about 15 feet before the bag. I have no idea what that was. Ugly as could be. Ended up in the outfield. Turang then rushing his throw to third airmails it into the stands. Whewwwww. E2. E6. FIVE Sounds errors? This is a very very rare affair - they lead the entire International League in fielding %. Yuck. And, if you've never watched Jacksonville, let me tell you:

Willians Astudillo is emphatically not a burner on the basepaths. He's feisty, a hell of a hitter, but he's short and overweight. This is not a base stealer. That was just as ugly as it gets.?

RHP Zach Brown gives up another run in relief. He appears to be scuffling late in his season - he played his part in the recent loss after leading 6-1 in the ninth inning in Charlotte. And, just like that he walks a man and Rick Sweet is pulling him. 4-1 Jacksonville. Two down. You know Sweet did not want to have to use another relief arm. Tough going of late for Nashville deep in their playoff push. It would appear they are on the verge of losing an opportunity to gain another game ahead of Columbus.

That was one of the uglier, listless, uninspired outings I've seen from the Sounds all year. A long season will do that. They maintain their 2.5 game lead over Columbus. Let's hope they can shake some of the cobwebs off that Charlotte series and get back to the type of baseball we've seen them play for 90% of their season. 4-1 Jumbo Shrimp. RHP Marcus Walden deserved better. He gave his all in a fantastic 6 IP, 1 R (unearned, you might guess) outing. On to the next.
