Cardinals (Flaherty) vs Brewers (Woodruff): 4/7/23, 7:10pm

I’m thinking the same thing wallus. The most consistent arm or bat of those guys is Woody. Burnes is fantastic most the time but has a track record of hiccups. Woody has been consistently fantastic. And now that the ‘issue’ with the fingers has been figured out he’s only been better. I’d put money on him being the smartest long term investment between Burnes Adames and him.

He's older so he probably won't get a mega contract. We could also extend him now and make sure he gets paid more in 2024 that he would be by going through Arbys. Turang is the logical replacement for Willy but we do not have a great replacement for BW. Burnes is going to be way out of our range and there is obviously bad blood there.

Agreed 100%. Wonder if Gasser will develop as an arm replacement in rotation for Burnes. Ashby being hurt really kills that part of the ‘next man up’. However - if you trade Adames and or Burnes - you figure you want to get a good arm or two back… on which one hits you have a replacement. Hey the theory sounds good right?

Trade Burnes and Willy and hopefully get a good arm or two and the show goes on.

Other than Yelich, we don't have a lot of money tied up in the future. Maybe we can sign another Suppan or Garza in free agency!

You're kidding yourself if Woody has another fantastic season, that he'd not just have a Free Agent contract pay him til he was 39/40.

Back to the game.

Came home to fin JK Simmons in the booth... missed the start so not sure why he's in town... can anyone enlighten me?

Seeing the Cardinals lineup and batting averages (yes I know there's more to it than that), it's hard to believe STL is 2-4

Seeing their runs allowed you’d think they were lucky to win 2.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Point in the direction where I said he wouldn't get paid til he was 39/40.

It's taking 7-8 years to sign Woodruff through his age 39+40 season.

It'll be over 220Mil.  You statement he's older probably won't get a mega contract.  That's a mega contract and I'm likely low balling the estimate.

An extension for 4 years with option would be the not mega contract.

220 million or so isn't a mega contract in baseball anymore. I do think you are probably in the ballpark of what BW would get.

Not saying it would be a great idea but I would take that contract over what Burnes or Willy is going to get. Other than Peralta, we don't have any dominant starters in the pipeline.
