Some very questionable managing from Sweet today. Feel like he's left his pitchers in too long multiple times now and it's cost the Sounds on the scoreboard.

An ugly inning gets uglier. On a 1-1 count, Bukauskas hangs an off-speed directly over the heart of the plate and Omaha rips a single. Monte Harrison continues to show his less than stellar CF work in 2023, scoops the ball; hesitates to throw it home; then fires a tailing ball down the 3B line past the reach of Payton Henry allowing the runner to advance to 2B. So, we now have a 9-6 deficit. Nobody down and the runner at 2B.

Perhaps. He could have been meaning to try and stretch Gasser and extend his pitch count. And, Bukauskas only had 22 pitches. I tell ya, if the ump doesn't take that strike 3 call in that first batter full count. And, if Singleton doesn't absolutely butcher that play down 1B...it's a classic: that's a different inning. 😂

I do think putting Gasser back out there for the 6th was a developmental call trying to challenge him. Don't think that move is made in the MLB. I still think he left Bukauskas in for 2 batters too long not that Mejia is exactly an inspiring choice to get out of the jam at the present.

Totally. I feel it. THO, let's be honest: this is a better J.C. Mejia now than it was before the Development List. Win? It's something.😔

I'm curious what the Brewers are going to do. AA is testing the pre-applied tacky baseballs while AAA and MLB are both using normal major league baseball. Feel like Some of these guys dominating in AA might get pretty quick call ups to AAA so they can start using the baseballs the MLB uses.

That doesn't seem problematic until you realize how many pitchers on the 40 man roster are in the Sounds bullpen at the moment and that the Sounds roster is pretty much full to the brim.

Like Chirino for example has thrown 60+ innings at AA and is currently dominating AA. Feel like he's ready to be promoted to AAA. Thompson and Uribe don't feel that far behind either.

And, what's wild, the Sounds have three guys right now in Clayton Andrews, Ethan Small, and Luis Contreras who are absolutely knocking on the door of MLB time. All three have been fantastic - Andrews and Contreras in particular. Lucas Erceg had a double hiccup and then got right back on track - for the most part has been truly good for the Sounds. There is just a riches of bullpen arms. What's even better is seeing guys like Jake Cousins, Elvis Peguero, and Tyson Miller have solid outing with the Brewers. The state of the bullpen is just extremely good.

Biloxi might have the most formidable 7th, 8th, 9th inning pitchers in all of AA. Thompson, Chirino, and Uribe are absolutely dominating the competition this year. Today they combined to retire 9 straight with 7 SO.

Meeker gave up a HR to the first batter he faced and after that the bullpen retired 15 straight with 11 SO.

Would appreciate it if one of the Brewer Fanatic minor league gurus could throw out a scouting report on Thompson. Signed out of indy ball, he's thrown just over 11 innings for the Shuckers & allowed 1 hit. He's 29, so you would think a bump to Nashville could be forthcoming sooner rather than later if they're serious about him.

LHP who throws from unconventional arm slot. His arm slot kind of reminds me of Hader's arm slot. He sits 92-93 (he supposedly has topped out at 97 in the past but haven't seen that velo in Biloxi yet) with his FB. His best pitch, in my opinion, is a big sweeping slider that sits around low 80s. He also occasionally throws a changeup. All 3 of his pitches are very high spin. For example his recorded slider spin rate would have been 11th in the MLB last season. I think he could be a LOOGY type guy if his velo stays in that 92-93 on his FB but if his velo can tick closer to 95 then he has high leverage type potential because his slider is the real deal.

Here's a video from Brewers PD of some of his stuff from this year. Awful camera angle so apologize for that.

Definitely see some Hader in the arm angle & release point. Certainly looks like he could give LH's fits with the slider, especially if he can be mid-90ish with his FB.

First crack at organized ball at 29. You see teams finding pitchers from indy leagues more & more, but still a great story.

I mentioned in a long-ago thread how it seems the Brewers are coming up with some real talented bullpen possibilities at various organizational levels. Seems to be coming to fruition in '23.

Given that, you hope the PTBNL for Megill is very, very, very nondescript.

The bullpen, in my estimation, is the clear strength of the system right now. It's a beautiful thing.
