High-A Wisconsin aims to take a commanding 3-0 series lead in Cedar Rapids, with RHP Edwin Jimenez (1.44 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, 12.1 K/9 in 31.1 IP) making his 2nd start (9th appearance) tonight. The season has been bumpy for CF Joe Gray Jr. (.493 OPS in 153 PAs) thus far, but he was the hero last night with a 3-run homer in the 10th. DH/C Darrien Miller is back in action after missing 7 of 8 games.

Not a bad crop of hurlers to enjoy my first night in over two weeks!

Also, I should add:

I heart Edwin Jimenez. There's a reason he is pitching in my return write-up. Fan boy, and all. Let's hope he keeps slinging that nasty stuff!

The AAA Sounds can take a 2-1 series lead with a win tonight, handing the ball to LHP Robert Gasser (4.74 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 11.1 K/9 in 38 IP) to lead the way. DH/1B Jon Singleton had three hits yesterday to boost his May OPS to .952.

The Mudcats trail first place Down East by 1.5 games, but have RHP Jacob Misiorowski (4.08 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 16.3 K/9 in 17.2 IP) on the hill to start tonight. 20-year old 2B Alexander Perez (..719 OPS in ACL last year) gets his first start in Low-A ball.

AA Biloxi is tied 1-1 in this week’s series at home against Montgomery and the two squads are both 5 games behind first place Pensacola. RHP Tobias Myers (4.58 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 12.6 K/9 in 39.1 IP) gets the start this evening. 3B Tyler Black continues to lead the Southern League in OBP (.435) and stolen bases (23).

Not seen any official word or interview. Guilarte was hit by a pitch in the top of the 9th inning on Sunday, played in the field for the bottom half of that inning, but we've not seen him since.

Batter number two. A 3-2 gorgeous inner-cut breaking ball for strikeout numero dos. Batter numero tres: 101 mph ripped down the gullet. And, we're now 0-2.

Glad to have you back @Joseph Zarr. These minor league game threads felt empty without you.

Thanks amigo. It was a rough couple weeks - not going to lie. It's spring planting time (all day long tasks) and no internet with my wife working from home proved, shall we say, a challenge. It was really weird not being able to watch games or even visit the forum!😅

Though, I would like to say: @sveumrules really stepped up and gave me those choice concise run down nuggets I needed for my nightly trips down the country road to the gas station to check in on the scores. LOL. Thanks my friend!

The wind is absolutely screaming toward homeplate from CF. In a series with only two HR so far, I'd be very surprised if there is a long ball in Zebulon tonight. It's howling. Mudcats had Vargas and Nicasia on the bags but Chirinos hit sharply into a 6-4-3 DP to end the first frame. Lara also got on with an infield single but was thrown out on the force out to 2B on a Vargas ground out to SS.

Misiorowski has these Down East hitters absolutely frozen on these sliders.

Gorgeous off-speed stuff tonight. Just gorgeous. (Best heard in an East Coast old lady voice)

That's 6 up and 6 down with 4 K's - all on just dazzling off-speed stuff. He is showing the full package of what makes him so tantalizing early.

INF Gregory Barrios with a beautiful walk - showing the ongoing improvements at the plate. He really laid off some very very good off-speed pitches nibbling just outside the zone after taking a questionable 2nd strike. I think that's a 6 game OB streak? Avina followed with a deep shot off the wall for a dub. Men on 2nd and 3rd. Nobody down. On a night with reasonable wind, that's a HR knock. He smashed that ball to right center. Both runners advance on a balk. 1-0 Mudcats.

Hey now! Sibrian knocks in a run with a smash line drive up the middle off the pitcher's glove ricocheting into the RF grass. 2-0 Mudcats. Sibrian at 1B. Still nobody down.

INF Alexander Perez's first AB above the Complex League results in a 4 pitch K. He saw only off-speed deliveries. He went down swinging.

Urias just stabbed a routine grounder to 3B and launched that biscuit about 10' over Singleton off the 1B wall. The runner did not advance. That was, um, something.

Chirinos has grounded out twice to SS very very hard. Still 2-0 Mudcats headed to the 4th. Gasser escapes an incredibly weak infield hit and Urias' error unscathed. Sounds to the plate in the bottom of the 1st. I continue to watch RHP Tobias Myers and see the same thing: his heater is too flat. It's hit hard. Like Varland as the season progresses, I see the same thing when he takes the hill: no movement. Too flat. It isn't a recipe for success. He needs to find more tailing action or any kind of movement.

Strikeout numero six for Misiorowski on, wait for it: another off-speed pitch. That's 6 K. All sliders and off-speed. 11 up and 11 down.

Excuse me fine Sirs! That's now 12 up and 12 down. Greg Young says it best: Misiorowski's stuff is on another level coming through Zebulon (yes, they had Burnes Mr. Keith Law!). That's 12 up and 12 down with 7 K.
