My answer to the first question is that I wouldn’t spend any time thinking about it. Chances are that that will work itself out through injuries and/or poor performance.

Regardless of who’s available I wouldn’t want to go to a true six man rotation. With off days the SP would sometimes have a full week between starts, and that isn’t ideal. I’d prefer a 5 man rotation with maybe an occasional 6th SP during periods without off days for two weeks or more.

On the second question, I still think the Cardinals are the most likely threat. They have the veteran talent that has shown that they can carry a team to an extended stretch of winning. They’ve put together charges each of the last two years and seem more likely than the other teams to do it again

Teheran keeps pitching until he pitches a couple bad ones in a row. Six man rotation, sure, or let Lauer/Houser pitch in higher leverage late inning spots.

The reason I can’t focus on that too much is that it’s at least 6 weeks until Woodruff will be pitching for the Brewers, and that’s assuming no setbacks. If and when he does come back he isn’t going to be pitching 7-8 innings right away, so you might want someone who can back him up with multiple innings.

Lauer was pretty terrible before he went on the IL. Who knows what he’ll be like when he comes back. Miley is always going to be an injury risk, etc, etc.

The least of my (and Counsell’s) concerns is what the Brewers will do if they have 6 healthy and effective starting pitchers. If they think they are in that position in mid July, they would seem to be in a good position to make a trade that would get them a hitter.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

2. I know it's unpopular around here but I've basically written off the Cardinals.

I just have to ask...How long have you been a Brewers fan?  No lifetime Brewers fan EVER writes off the Cardinals until they are mathematically eliminated from winning the division.  Even then, since it's the Cardinals, they could still find a way... 🤢

You are making a huge mistake here man, HUGE!

The Brewers have reverted to the “no add on” offense.

Another run or two here would be nice.

It would be amusing to look back at some of the comments made about the Cardinals in August of 2021 when they were under.500, double digits behind the Brewers and given about a 2% chance to make the playoffs.

We can all see the rational arguments for why the Cardinals are incapable (or at least unlikely) to make a charge to get them to 85 or so wins. But, karma and superstition if nothing else warrant keeping a wary eye on them.

They needed to pour it on, no doubt.

I know they’re a perpetual pain in the ass. I just don’t think this is the same team and the black magic will end at some point.

With the two pitchers are going to be seeing to finish the game the prospects for the Brewers scoring are not good.

Over/under on K’s is about 4.5.

These are pretty frightening words coming from someone who said last July when they had a 4 game lead that the Brewers making the playoffs was “almost  a given” or something like that.  😁

Stryzelecki had 607 ops against before today…….1.05 whip

had 14 holds and no blown saves before today.

I think he’s fine

I don't think he throws hard enough. That extra millisecond is big in the late innings.

Hey, sometimes I'm wrong. I didn't expect the Brewers to lay down and die.

Maybe Singleton shouldn’t be an everyday player, CC?

Tellez hasn’t been contributing much more lately.
