Will be incorporated into Saturday AM's Link Report:

Final: DSL Twins 12, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 1

Box Score / Game Log

The Twins youngsters scored in six of the first seven innings, including five runs in the first. Four of the seven runs allowed by 17-year-old Venezuelan RHP Gabriel Colmenarez were unearned, but that doesn't mean he was that much sharper (2 BB, HBP, WP sprinkled within his outing). Colmenarez' two rookie mound-mates would allow five combined runs (four earned) over the final five innings.

Sometimes it's better to be dominated while at the plate in a game like this, at least then you tip your cap to the opposing staff. But the Cerveceros Uno drew eight walks, were 2-for-12 with RISP, and stranded 11. Three of the four hits were singles (17-year-old Venezuelan SS and leadoff man
Joan Gutierrez doubled and walked). It was the 4th double among the ten hits thus far for the LH swinger, sporting a pretty .955 OPS through his first eight pro games. Gutierrez was caught stealing for the 2nd time in four attempts, however, after opening the game with a base on balls.

Mix in three errors committed by the Uno Boys and there won't be a lot of highlighted compliments in the coaching game reports after this one.

The team still sits at a fine 6-3 despite the loss here.

AA Biloxi has won 3 games in a row and has a doubleheader in Montgomery today. RHP Justin Jarvis (2.59 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 10.5 K/9 in 62.2 IP) starts the first game. 3B Tyler Black continues to lead the Southern League in stolen bases and walks, is 3rd in OBP and 6th in runs scored.

Final: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 10, DSL Guardians Red 3

Box Score / Game Log

This game is more befitting of today's weather for both Dominican contests.

86 degrees, sunny, 1 MPH wind.

Big surprise, right?

The Dos Brothers moved to 5-4 and had the Cleveland entry seeing red in this home game. We've been seeing game times consistently fall in the 3 hour, 30 minute plus territory since the start of the season, no change here. Not sure you're noticed an occasional 04:00:00 notation as well. With the tropical weather, why let a phantom pitch clock interfere?

Nine hits for the good guys, including three doubles. Guardian pitchers walked 11 and threw six wild pitches. The Cerveceros Dos batters only had six RBI vs. the ten runs scored. Thank you, inexperienced opponent arms.

Second-year infielder Demetrio Nadal (DH'ing in the 9-hole here) was 17-for-20 in SB attempts last summer. On Friday, he was 4-for-4 and has not been caught in six attempts in 2023. He singled, walked twice, and scored three runs.

It will be nice when we are a full month in to see how things are trending beyond just "hot starts". But among the players beyond Nadal who padded their strong first week-and-a-half numbers on Friday were:

  • 2B Luis Lameda - 2 singles, 3 walks, SB (one CS), 2 RBI, 1 run (1.083 OPS)
  • 3B Roderick Flores - double, single, walk, 2 RBI, 1 run (1.035 OPS)
  • RHP Aneuris Rodriguez - 4.2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 6 Ks, 1 WP (1.04 ERA)

The AAA Sounds are up 3-0 in their home series against Gwinnett and have RHP Pedro Fernandez (3.83 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 7.1 K/9 in 44.2 IP) making his 8th start (15th appearance). Can SS Brice Turang homer for the 3rd consecutive game?

Boy does 21-year old RHP Stiven Cruz (6.91 ERA in 43 IP) need to turn things around, so High-A Wisconsin can vanquish 41-18 Great Lakes. DH/C Matt Wood has an 11-game hitting streak.

Not a good outing for Mr. Jarvis, giving up 6 runs in 2 1/3 innings. Runner on 2nd is his responsibility too, with RHP Robbie Baker on in relief. Montgomery 6, Biloxi 4, still in the 3rd inning.

Didn’t take long for Tyler Black to wreak some havoc. Double, stole 3B and then scored on an error in the 1st.

This kid could be up in 2024!  Looking forward to seeing his progress the rest of this season.

A win for the Low-A Mudcats would even their series in Augusta 2-2. RHP Alexander Vallecillo (1.35 ERA with 26 Ks in 20 IP) is tonight’s starter, while DH/OF Hedbert Perez has hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games.

RHP Robbie Baker has now given up homers in each of his last four outings. After such a great start to the year, you can definitely say: no bueno. That's 5 HR given up now in his most recent four outings. This includes every outing in June. Ruh roh. What's more, until this ugly run on the hill he hadn't given up a single long ball - that's 13 outings. Rough stretch for the feisty hurler.

Russell Smith with 5 ER before he even gets out of the 1st inning. Don't know where the Brewers go with him. He's just frankly not good.

He gets pullled before even finishing the inning. His AA ERA is currently at 9.90

Really awesome to see that Mudcats offense start to find itself again. The return of Lara is obviously a huge boon. That's an extremely telling impact bat. Hard to believe what he is doing in his first affiliated action at his age. LOTS to like with this young stud.

He wasn't very good in Wisconsin...ever, really, unfortunately. He came into this season in much better condition - looking trim and lean after becoming a new father last year (?). And, well, as you say here: it's hard to know what they do with him now. He'll get more leash given his draft position (as that silly game goes). BUT, the same issues that plagued him last year are plaguing him in 2023. Personally, I felt the promotion was jumping the gun and probably strictly due to where they drafted him. I didn't think it was warranted given he never really proved anything whatsoever in High-A where he mostly struggled. It's really unfortunate.

After tonight, Lara is going to be top 10 in all of A ball in wRC+ minimum 140 PA. Oh should I also mention that everyone else in the top 13 is 21 or older and most are 22 or older. What Lara is doing in A ball as an 18 year old is incredible. The fact we have gotten to enjoy this 2 seasons in a row is something we should not take for granted.

He absolutely has that 'IT' factor you can not teach. He is so confident and sure of himself in every facet. Wayyyyyyy beyond his years in presence and poise. An incredibly fun story to 2023.

Er mmerrrr gerrrrrd, Alex Hall just ripped a two-run go-ahead HR in the top of the 9th. LET'S GO!

Let me take a moment to set the scene here:

Darrien Miller ripped a hard 3-2 grounder and the Loons' 1B made a fantastic diving stab. One down. Metzinger went down looking at a heater at the knees. Gotta swing there. 2 down. Eduardo Garcia was down 0-2 in the count...he fought off an off-speed pitch to keep the count alive. He smacks a single into mid-CF on the very next high heater. Third pitch. Just after a pick-off attempt to 1B. He smashed an absolute no-doubter to deep LF. Oh sweet baby.
