Five Badgers volleyball players entered the portal.  Biggest losses are Addy Horner, who was considered the #1 setter in her class but is stuck behind the #1 setter in the country, and Trinity Shadd-Ceres, who had some big moments in the tournament.

Five transfers plus the four players whose eligibility just ended represents just over half the 2025 roster.  Eight players are expected to continue with UW.  A Florida MB has already committed to transfer in to Wisconsin, and the incoming 2026 first-year class is highly ranked, but the Badgers still need more setting and back-row help. 

College coaching is turning increasingly like my attempts to keep my library operation staffed with college students: maybe once in a while I find an employee willing/able to work for me their whole student period, but most switch jobs after a year or year and a half.  Managing that turnover occupies so much of my time, and I struggle to imagine how coaches will do the same in a much higher-profile situation.

So, half of the players who could have come back from a Final Four team have entered the portal.  It's not just college football and basketball.
