I do think the Cubs sign Bellinger or Chapman. With the trade for Bush, if they get one of those 2 then the most obvious fit becomes the Brewers for Hoskins. I’d think he’d prefer to be on a good team with more playing time at 1B than DH and a hitters park to establish a higher value next offseason.  The Brewers are really the only team than offers all 3 of those with a 1B opening. Sure he could go to Arizona, the Mets, Angels, or Washington. But I don’t think those teams would be ideal fits.

plus with all the salary dumping the Brewers have done, they can easily afford to pay Hoskins.

Filling the void at 1st base for the power needy Crew, it took until mid-January for a national writer to see Rhys Hoskins as a fit for the Brewers.  While there's been plenty of talk here from posters, I believe this is the first time a writer has mentioned it.

It's too bad that the front office doesn't though, apparently.

According to who?

I said apparently. That means it's just my opinion. They sure don't seem to be in any kind of urgency to sign or trade anyone.

Isn't Boras his agent? He's not coming here sadly.

I understand this thought, but an article from MLBTraderumors yesterday gives me a little (maybe blind) hope.  https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/01/boras-clients-who-signed-after-january-in-previous-offseasons.html

The article details the Boras clients that have signed after January in the past.  They include:

  1. JBJ to the Brewers in March 2021
  2. Moustakas to the Brewers in February 2019
  3. KRod in both February 2015 & February 2014
  4. Lohse in March 2013

So maybe it's our time again.

Gotcha, just a hunch based on lack of activity. But I'd argue that no one has shown an urgency to sign him or about half of the bigger free agents still (25 of 56 FAs proj. to have at least 1.0 fWAR haven't signed yet, and the Brewers have signed 2 of 31 that have signed, so they've actually been more active than the average team on that front).

Still reason to believe they could pick up the pace as we get closer to Spring Training. It's been an awfully slow offseason for anyone not named the Dodgers and players and teams are viewing the "deadline" to make moves as being closer and closer to Spring Training or even Opening Day each year. There are A LOT of players to be signed and traded still and there's a good chance a few of the names added to teams are going to go to the Brewers.

Would love to get Hoskins and years past have shown the later these guys hang around and don't get picked up by other teams the more likely the Brewers make a late play on them.

Via the Athletic, Ken Rosenthal speculating the Brewers might go after Hoskins.

I hope this is true!

That kind of makes sense. If the Brewers are looking for a shorter-term deal, Boras would try to leverage that to the bigger markets to see if he can land a longer-term deal. When that doesn't happen, he goes back to the Brewers.

Players hire Boras to get the most money. Sometimes that means taking the one-year, prove-it deal. The Brewers should be in the playoff hunt, could give him the everyday 1B job, would put him in the middle of the lineup, and play in a hitter-friendly park. It wouldn't be the worst landing spot for Hoskins.
