If he was done why was he given a vote of confidence by the FO after the season when all the other managers who got fired were being fired?

Not being fired is a vote of confidence?

Ross went sub .500 after inheriting a playoff team - this argument is nonsense.... did y'all forget the Cubs collapse last year?

It's actually impressive how you got nothing right in that comment.

Both Ricketts and Hoyer said Ross was their guy after the season ended and that he was doing a great job. A month later they fired him. If Ross was gone either way they would have fired him immediately after the season ended not a month into the offseason after saying he was their guy.

Ross inherited a Cubs team that was not a playoff team the year before he was hired and a team that the owner's significantly cut payroll on leading to a rebuild.

My bad, Ross inherited a team that went to the playoffs in 4 of the past 5 seasons.

He was on the last year of his deal, if there was any truth to those comments they would have talked extension if they truly felt he was doing a "great job". He was not coming back after the collapse last year, they lost 14 of 20 games and gave away a playoff spot in September. He was done in Chicago.

Counsell was clearly plan A, but there was more than likely several other plans that they were going to pursue and Ross would have been an absolute last resort if all other plans failed.

Blaming CC for taking an offer from the team that employed Ross is ridiculous and probably one of the dumbest things I've read on this sub... the Cubs employed him and they didn't want him anymore, how is that CC's fault?

Ross managed himself out of job when he blew it last September.
