For as exciting as the pitching has been in the system this year, I feel like the hitting has been oppositely underwhelming. Injuries have certainly played a part, but we aren't seeing many breakthroughs with the bat so far this year. Will be very interesting to see where the farm system ranks come midseason re-rankings. Feel like I wouldn't be surprised if we fall to the bottom half of the teens with Chourio and Gasser potentially graduating.

Bottom half of the teens seems too far a drop.

Losing Chourio-Gasser-Ortiz will drop the ranking for sure, but has any farm in baseball had pitching breakouts that match ours?

My guess is not many if any. I can’t imagine a drop further than 12-15, and near top 10 farm still wouldn’t surprise.

I think the trade off has been that we have developed depth pitching, but I’m not sure there is enough potential outside of Wichrowski to push for top prospect lists. Yoho is an elite reliever, but a reliever at A ball will not push up the rankings.
So Lara, Pratt, Y. Rodriguez all just holding their own at such young ages is fine and good for us fans, but that does not impress those making these lists.

However, it is less exciting than last summer when there were several players to watch with Chourio, Quero, Black and then the pitchers really picked up (Gasser, Mis, CRod).

Im less concerned about the rankings per se, but the lack of a big leap forward in some players is concerning. Wichrowski is the only true helium guy. Boeve has kept hitting. And that’s it. Granted very young players at each level, and most leagues are not conducive to offense, so I see the depth of this system. But it does not have the elite prospects potential like many of including our rivals in Pittsburgh and Chicago.

Yeah I think this is very well said. Wichrowski is really the only big time helium prospect breakout this year so far. Last year you had Quero, Black, Misiorowski all making big leaps at this point. The farm system is very young for their levels on the whole so it’s not that shocking, but you’d have hoped to see at least one or two guys really elevate themselves.

I’d add Woessner, Myers, Letson & Manfredi to the breakout starter list, and after watching Henderson touch 97 in ST, now that his oblique is healed, it shouldn’t be long before we see him on the fast-track, imo.

I think you are seriously underestimating the pitching breakouts and potential in this farm.

All fair. But it’s Not necessarily that I am underestimating, rather that I was viewing from the perspective of prospect evaluators and system rankings.

I think Myers is a nice find but far from a “prospect”, and Letson has a handful of low A innings in a projectable body, but not high end when compared to top pitchers in other systems.  Woessner is interesting to see how he develops. If he has starts like his last he has stuff that could project as a MLB starter. And could be a top prospect but that’s a few ifs.

however … This highlights the depths of the system.  The future rosters don’t have to wait on a specific player (or two even), but rather several at a position to succeed (ie, Ortiz. EBJ, Barrios, Pratt at SS; or Lara, Yophery, and most of Carolina/ACL rosters for OF depth). But for high end talent - few have truly stepped up yet with potential and production.  Although there are a few months left on the season, our farm clubs are young, and the draft is in under 2 months with 5 picks in the top 100 and just under$13M pool. So a lot can change between now and mid season  or even end of season.

so I am super excited, but also realize we view these guys through our Brewers blue/yellow colored glasses.

Agree with your assessment’s mostly, but also with depth comes the opportunity for more future breakouts.
