Hoskins has a 128 wRC+. Sure his 0.3 WAR is held back by being a slow DH/1B, but the Brewers are getting what they paid for in the box and I’d imagine they’d gladly pay him $18M next year if he finishes the year out healthy and hitting like he has.

Miley is a sunk cost this year, yes, but in 2018/23 they got 5.5 rWAR for a total of $7M so I think they still came out pretty far ahead in the aggregate.

Sanchez has been underwhelming as. DH, but in his 49 PA as a backup catcher he has a 142 wRC+ and he’s also posted a 167 wRC+ in his nine pinch hit PAs. He’s being paid like a bench player and has performed in that capacity.

Wong turned in 4.9 fWAR | 6.4 bWAR for $18M before being dealt, that was an excellent value signing.

Lorenzo pretty much earned his whole contract in 2018, but even with the down years at the end came in at 8.5 fWAR | 13.8 bWAR for $64 million after opting out in 2020 so that deal was still even money at worst.

Also worth noting that Wong had a club option for that final season that likely was only accepted so they could trade him. That Wong signing was a certified success.

It is interesting the things people recall. I remember that in ‘22 Wong’s production against LHP cratered to such an extent he was a platoon player in year 2 of his contract.

You may very well be right, they picked up his club option so they could trade him  but they also included cash to Seattle for Winker who gave the Brewers 0. Seems they would’ve been ahead just to let him walk.

It’s interesting to me that both trades and free agency is risky, but the Brewers rarely get burned in a trade yet their free agent signings have all been underwhelming to flops.

Wong was always a soft platoon guy throughout his career. I don't know how you can suggest 989 PA of 113 wRC+ and 4.9 fWAR 6.4 bWAR underwhelming at $9 M AAV. That's an overwhelming success of a signing.

I don’t think there is anything complex about the Yelich trade. First off, I don’t think the extension should have any relevance.

Secondly, 3/4 of the players have had a negative career WAR. Monte Harrison’s 0.1 is the only positive. Collectively it is something insane like over -7 WAR. Mind boggling insane and one of the most lopsided in baseball history for sure.

I’m quite happy to have Hoskins and Sanchez on this roster. Would do those again 💯. Miley, yeah, but it was a gamble and we lost.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.
