Down East lost 4-0 and Lynchburg fell 7-6 (despite scoring 5 runs late), so Carolina’s magic number drops to One Game.

They’ve got 5 games from Tuesday-Thursday next week before the first half ends. Likely feeling good going into next week despite some hiccups this week.

So TRats clinch first half title, correct?

Nevermind just read damuelle post.  So Mudcats should hopefully clinch this week.

what is the schedule this week that they only have 5 games between this week and next?

Nevermind on Carolina - they play two DH this week.  First half ends Thursday MIs week? Is that odd?

And milb.com has the TRats magic number at 1, that’s why I’m asking above - they clinched though, right?

That’s actually the usual schedule, ending the first half half-way through a random 6-game series. They play 132 games - 66 in each half. But the season-opening series is always 3 games (starting on a Friday), so it screws up the math and makes the schedule look funny.

Aaron Rund settled in nicely after his two run errror putting up 3.1 scoreless with 1 H | 2 BB | 3 K.

I meant to predict Rund as a Star of the Day in the tail end of this AM’s Link Report, as today is his 25th birthday.

Gets the “W” on the playoff-clincher, sweet!

Yeah that was a huge performance from Rund. Wisconsin was probably imagining Fitzpatrick would go at least 4 innings and potentially even finish the game. He only got 2 outs. Rund saved the pen big time getting 10 outs.

I suspect once they clinch then they will cancel the second dh

I imagine Carolina would be absolutely okay with that given their SP injuries at the moment. An 8 game week even with 3 of them being 7 innings and 1 being 5 innings would likely put a lot of stress on the arms down in Carolina's bullpen.

Wisconsin clinches! WOOT WOOT! Let's go back to Chris Mehring's calls from last night's 9th inning. I've been listening to this for 10-15 minutes straight as I return home from working all day at my rental house. Glorious:

The good: DL Hall put up a scoreless frame.

The maybe not so good: first four seamer was 93.9 mph, last four seamer was 92.1 mph.

The Brewers as an organization have been absolutely snake bitten by the injury bug since Day 1. AND, yet, they are churning out a first place current showing in the NL Central at 13 games over. They just clinched a first half High-A title. They are on the verge of a Low-A title. Their International Class looks extremely impressive early. It's a real testament to the depth of the organization as a whole that they are facing these massive hurdles and yet are finding players rising to the occasion across every single level. The personnel department can once again hold their collective heads up high. The players keep battling. Extremely extremely impressive.

I've been saying this since last summer:

In an ideal baseball universe, LHP Aaron Ashby would still be working on his strength; his form; his everything at the Arizona Complex. It is not an ideal baseball universe. We will have to live with his many ups-and-downs on his 'Recovery Road'. I feel for him. I truly truly do. AND, I'm just going to keep on rooting for his continued resolve as he tries to find out who he is in this ongoing leg of his recovery. It has definitely not been easy.

I hope Ashby can get some time to reset when we have some players return (ie Junis, Williams, Ross, Bukauskas) which would add more arms to AAA. Maybe spend time at the complex in the pitching lab to work on some things that will help either his control or figure out which pitches are working and maximize them.

Even if he can turn into a dependable LHP reliever - that is valuable and maybe not as cost effective given his contract, but again I'll take any positives out of his rehab. But right now his future as a starting pitcher has to be in serious question.

Just so you are current:

Unfortunately, Bukauskas suffered a set back in just his first and only Rehab outing with the Sounds. I believe he is back in Milwaukee getting opinions and assessments. Sad times fir this Bukauskas fanboy!

Yup from MLBTraderumors today:

Quote
  • Circling back to the Brewers for the final item, manager Pat Murphy told reporters (including Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) that JB Bukauskas will undergo an MRI after suffering a setback.  Bukauskas has been out since mid-April due to a lat strain, and pitched in his first rehab outing last Thursday but emerged with continued soreness.  Bukauskas has been in the Brewers’ organization since being claimed off the Mariners’ waiver wire in April 2023, though he has battled multiple injuries during his time in Milwaukee.

Well crap. First off very bad news for him and hope for the best.

And second off I read that and completely forgot it.

Either way, ugh!
