Darrien Miller is really having an intriguing season. He's handling the Lion's share of the catching duties for Biloxi. He has elevated his CS% over the past two seasons to respectable rates - sitting at 19% after tonight in 2024. He's really flipped his K:BB rates to a fascinating 39:40, respectively. You couple that with the absurd amount he gets on base via bean balls and we're really holding out hope he re-discovers at least a modicum more power and hopefully an ability to start knocking in more runs. I personally feel like the Brewers as an org would benefit greatly in his offensive development if they simply gave him a place in the batting order to work on. They tend to throw him all up and down that order. Now that they have O'Rae in a designated lead-off role, I would love to see them give Miller a month of expectations in a single place in the batting order. Perhaps this is wishful thinking?

Nice to see him get organizational recognition to boot!

The Low-A Mudcats trail this week’s road-and-home series against Down East 2-0 and look to struggling 21-year old RHP Jesus Rivero (9.87 ERA with 26 Ks and 21 BB in last 17.1 IP) to turn things around. DH/C David Garcia has hit safely in 7 of 8 games.

This line-up really misses the excitement and unpredictability but immense bat-to-ball skill of Juan Baez. They just do. We've heard no updates. The injury was originally reported to not be too serious (in the very beginning of his IL stint) but it sure is taking the full breadth of time to heal. They really miss his timely hits.

After a 3-inning relief outing last week, RHP Chad Patrick (2.89 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 74.2 IP) makes his 13th start for the AAA Sounds, who are even 1-1 in this week’s series with Memphis. 1B Tyler Black and RF Joey Wiemer both went yard yesterday.

Rivero pitched a highly effective 4 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 7 K, 0 R back on May 31st vs Delmarva. Since that time? He's pitched four separate times (1 GS). 8.53 ERA over 6 1/3 IP. 2.37 WHIP. 10 BB. 8 K. 6 HB

To say this is an important outing underscores how every outing is important at present. He has found himself in the deep rough in 2024. As per usual, he can absolutely show those brilliant flashes, but the vast majority of his season has displayed his absolute lack of refinement of his tools. Boy, do I hope he can start taking steps. So much talent in that toolkit.

It’s KC Hunt day for the High-A Timber Rattlers, as the 23-year old RHP (2.44 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 13.5 K/9 in 48 IP) aims to lead the team to a 2-1 series advantage at Beloit. Eduardo Garcia mans SS after the Barrios trade, while Luke Adams is out of the starting lineup a day after an early-exit HBP.

The AA Shuckers lead this week’s series 2-0 over Mississippi and have hard-throwing 21-year old RHP Brett Wichrowski (4.47 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 in 48.1 IP) starting tonight. C Darrien Miller’s .423 OBP easily leads the 8-team Southern League (second: .408).

No Pratt in the lineup today. Is he on his way to Wisconsin?

It twould be a logical guess, yah? I thought that immediately upon the Barrios trade. We shall see, my friend. We shall see. It would also open up a spot for Bitonti and Guilarte and Di Turi could slide into primary SS share.

No verification yet, but the T-Rats are down to 26 active players (vs. 29 for Mudcats). Makes sense. And then Guilarte and Di Turi would split Carolina SS duties. This is idle speculation, of course.

Heck of a first frame from the young Rivero. He works around a second batter single by picking that runner off at 2B (stole 2B, obviously) and then K'ng the third batter swinging on the third pitch.

Down East not knowing it's 2024 has prevented me from seeing a Reece Walling HR and that makes me very sad

Same, my friend. Same. We will always be the OG Walling Stans.

Full count K to open Rivero's 2nd frame. The young man is dealing early. THIS is what he is capable of any outing. Let's hope he keeps it together. 3-of-4 outs by way of punch out early.

Ground out to 3B (Guilarte) to end the frame. That's 2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K for the young Rivero. 1-0 Muddies and we are on to the 3rd frame.

Guilarte struck out for the 2nd time batting lead-off tonight. Di Turi followed with a two-out ground rule double in his 2nd AB.

They're showing the Redbirds walk-off last night now that the warm up is well underway. What an atrocioius pitch by LHP Nick Bennett. I mean that was the very definition of an off-speed hanger. Good gracious. So much pain to re-watch. LOL.

We are underway in hot and humid Memphis. Upper 90's. Likely feels like 115 or more with that humidity.

Black opens with a 1-1 single line drive into CF. His red hot play continues since being optioned.
