Just thought I'd put together a quick reference list with some of the rumoured to be available starting pitchers...

Tarik Skubal (123 IP)
58 ERA- | 61 FIP-
133 K+ | 55 BB+ | 64 HR+

Garrett Crochet (107 IP)
74 ERA- | 54 FIP-
156 K+ | 65 BB+ | 73 HR+

Jack Flaherty (100 IP)
78 ERA- | 77 FIP-
144 K+ | 52 BB+ | 117 HR+

Erick Fedde (117 IP)
73 ERA- | 86 FIP-
96 K+ | 80 BB+ | 87 HR+

[These are the likely the only guys worth starting in a playoff game. Would imagine Skubal and Crochet are out of our price range so one of Flaherty or Fedde is probably the best we can hope for.]

Nathan Eovaldi (99 IP)
82 ERA- | 92 FIP-
105 K+ | 79 BB+ | 103 HR+

Andrew Heaney (100 IP)
87 ERA- | 94 FIP-
104 K+ | 82 BB+ | 110 HR+

[Not sure if the Rangers will sell or not, but either of these two would give the rotation a boost.]

Chris Bassitt (114 IP)
94 ERA- | 92 FIP-
95 K+ | 112 BB+ | 69 HR+

Yusei Kikuchi (111 IP)
114 ERA- | 86 FIP-
117 K+ | 72 BB+ | 113 HR+

Tyler Anderson (123 IP)
71 ERA- | 106 FIP-
78 K+ | 115 BB+ | 89 HR+

Cal Quantrill (108 IP)
88 ERA- | 109 FIP-
82 K+ | 109 BB+ | 107 HR+

[Getting somebody from this tier would be more of an inning eater move than a move the needle move, though worth noting that Kikuchi has an even shinier 81 xFIP- indicating he's likely had some bad HR luck. Conversely Bassitt has a more pedestrian 103 xFIP- so he could be bound for an elevated HR rate down the stretch if things even out.]

I think you can remove Skubal and Crochet as possible targets for the Brewers as the Dodgers and Orioles will outbid the Brewers for those two and possibly even the Padres.

You can also cross off Flaherty from the list.  I don’t see the Brewers having much interest in him the injury risk is too high there.

From the first four that leaves Fedde but I am not sure he would be worth the haul of prospects needed to give up.

I still believe Kikuchi makes the most sense here for the Brewers.  He won’t cost as much as Fedde and doesn’t come with the injury risk like Flaherty does.

Disagree with most of this post

If the Brewers want Skubal or Crochet, they can get them. They are close to the O's in what they can offer and have more to offer than the Dodgers and Padres.

I see the Brewers have a good amount of interest in Flaherty, He was relatively healthy last year and been healthy this year.

Fedde wont cost the haul that you think he will - Maybe Rodriguez and Weimer

The Brewers are definitely not close to the O's in what they can offer, unless they plan on giving up Chourio. No team is close to what the O's can offer for a Skubal.

Out of all of those options listed above (taking Skubal and Crochet out, as I just don't think we'll want to give up what it will take to get them), I think the guy I want the most right now is Fedde.  I like the fact that we'd have him next year as well, so you'd be adding another non-rental guy to go along with Civale.  I feel pretty confident that it's going to take much more though than Rodriguez (assuming you are referring to Carlos?) and Wiemer to land him.

I'd offer the Sox Mitchell and Wichrowski and see if they would accept that.  Although, we might need to be OK giving up Black and Wichrowski in this deal if they counter back?

Take away Holliday/Chourio

Mayo is the only one ahead of a Brewer

Frelick >/= Cowser

Basallo >/= Quero

Black >/= Kjerstad

And then the Brewers have like the next 3/4 top Prospects

Yeah. That's just not accurate whatsoever.

Wiemer has no value he is a throw in only as he is valued around the league as a 5th OF at best.  Rodriguez wouldn’t be enough on his own and it will take a bit more than you think.  There is a lot of demand for pitching this deadline more so than normal.

I think both Efflin and Littell are available from the Rays. They will be traded now or in the offseason with 1 year left on both. Efflin is obviously more interesting, but both would be solid upgrades.
